Let’s be real for a second. In a show full of apocalypse survivors, Victor Strand stands in a league of his own in Fear the Walking Dead. He’s not the “good guy,” he’s not the emotional center of the group, and he definitely keeps you guessing. But that’s exactly why he’s so fascinating to watch.
Strand is clever, smooth, and a little dangerous, and Colman Domingo brings him to life in a way that’s impossible to ignore in the hit Walking Dead spinoff. But that’s not the only reason fans can’t get enough of this amazingly talented actor. Outside of Fear the Walking Dead, Domingo has been building a career that proves he’s one of the most versatile actors working today.
In this article, we’ve highlighted some of Domingo’s best performances outside of the zombie series. Don't forget to add them to your watchlist and check them out!

Euphoria
- Where to watch: HBO and HBO Max
- Seasons: 2 and a third season on the way
When Euphoria debuted on HBO in June 2019, it was unlike anything most people had ever seen on television. On the surface, it looks like a high school drama. But what makes it stand out is how boldly and honestly it explores the inner lives of a group of teens dealing with issues that are often swept under the rug. From addiction and identity to love, trauma, and social media pressure, Euphoria lays everything bare in a way that feels intense and painfully real.
Euphoria follows Rue Bennett (played by Zendaya), a 17-year-old who has just returned home from rehab after a near-fatal drug overdose. From the start, it’s clear she didn’t fully choose sobriety. She still yearns for the temporary relief that drugs once gave her. Her struggle with addiction, emotional scars, and longing for connection drives the series, with her narration often leading us through the story. The teen series also follows the tumultuous lives of her friends, family, and classmates.
Domingo plays the role of Ali Muhammed, a recovering drug addict who eventually becomes Rue's sponsor in Narcotics Anonymous. As Rue battles to stay sober and cope with the emotional turmoil of her teenage years, Ali offers guidance, support, and a steady, empathetic presence that helps her face her addiction and start understanding herself.

Ma Rainey's Black Bottom
- Where to watch: Netflix
Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom is a striking, emotionally charged drama that brings to life one of American theatre’s most powerful stories about music, race, ambition, and identity. Adapted from August Wilson’s acclaimed 1982 play, the film features towering performances from Viola Davis and Chadwick Boseman. In addition, it stands as one of the most gripping movies about Black artists confronting a world that profits off their talent while denying them power.
Set in Chicago in 1927, the film takes place almost entirely inside Paramount’s recording studio, where legendary blues singer Ma Rainey (played by Davis) is scheduled for a recording session that becomes far more than just a business appointment. What unfolds over the course of a single day is a powerful exploration of personal dreams, generational divides, unresolved trauma, and the painful ironies of racial exploitation.
Domingo takes on the role of Cutler, a veteran member of Ma Rainey’s band whose calm demeanor, wisdom, and steady presence contrast sharply with the fiery ambition of the younger musicians.

The Madness
- Where to watch: Netflix
- Seasons: 1
The Madness is a tense, eight‑episode conspiracy thriller that stars Domingo in a compelling lead role. It tells the story of one man’s fight for the truth in a world where facts and narratives blur. The series centers on Muncie Daniels (played by Domingo), a respected media pundit whose life is upended when a peaceful solo retreat in the Poconos takes a harrowing turn.
While on a writing sabbatical in the woods, he accidentally stumbles upon the dead body of a notorious white supremacist and almost immediately finds himself framed for the murder despite knowing he didn’t commit the crime. Now, he's being hunted by both the authorities and unseen forces who want to manipulate the situation for their own gain. The situation quickly escalates into a fight not just for his freedom, but for the truth itself, as he uncovers a larger conspiracy.

The Four Seasons
- Where to watch: Netflix
- Seasons: 1 and a second season on the way
Now, we're going to switch genres. The Four Seasons takes a lighthearted yet heartfelt approach to exploring friendship, love, and the challenges of midlife. While it’s rooted in comedy, the series also delves into drama. It gives audiences a mix of laughs and emotional moments that feel grounded and relatable.
Netflix’s modern adaptation of the 1981 Alan Alda film reimagines the story for today’s viewers, following three long-time married couples who maintain a tradition of taking seasonal vacations together. However, things start to unravel in ways none of them expected. The familiar rhythm of laughter, shared stories, and lighthearted competition is disrupted when one of the couples divorces.
Domingo’s character, Danny, finds himself caught in the middle of the tension, trying to support his friends while navigating his own relationship with his husband.
