Deadline reports that Fear the Walking Dead and The Madness actor Colman Domingo has been cast in a new role. This time he will star in a new adaptation of The Running Man.
Directed by Edgar Wright (Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead) who co-wrote the screenplay with Michael Bacall (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World), The Running Man is the second film adaptation of Stephen Kings 1982 novel, which he wrote under his pseudonym Richard Bachman. The first film was released in 1987, directed by Paul Michael Glaser and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.
The story is set in 2025 in a dystopian world where people participate in a violent reality game show called The Running Man. The contestants play a game in which they have the opportunity to win money as they are chased down by murderous hunters. The movie follows Ben Richards (Glenn Powell), who volunteers for the game in a desperate attempt to get the money needed for his daughter, who is gravely ill.
Powell is joined by an all-star cast which includes Katy O'Brian, Daniel Ezra, Karl Glusman, Josh Brolin, Lee Pace, Jayme Lawson, Michael Cera, Emilia Jones, William H. Macy, David Zayas, and Colman Domingo.
Domingo will portray Bobby Thompson, the host of The Running Man game show. In the original film, Family Feud host Richard Dawson played the host, Damon Killian, on the suggestion of Schwarzenegger, as the two were close friends. The new movie will feature Brolin as Dan Killian, producer of the show that will serve as a central villain. But due to the importance of the game show host in the story, Wright felt they needed to cast someone of Domingo's talent in the role.
The Running Man is scheduled to be released in theaters by Paramount Pictures on Nov. 7, 2025.
