The first two episodes of season 2 of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon - The Book of Carol were good episodes that did some world-building as Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) was brought back into the storyline. The third episode reminds us why the spinoff's first season was so extraordinary.

Tread lightly as this article contains spoilers for episode 203, "L'Invisible," of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon - The Book of Carol.

This episode gave some interesting insight into Marion Genet (Anne Charrier), the leader of the Pouvoir, or Power of the Living, with an eye-opening backstory. Viewers also saw Sylvie (Laïka Blanc-Francard) stick to her convictions to protect Laurent (Louis Puech Scigliuzzi). Carol encounters Genet while Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Isabelle (Clemence Poesy) are both held captive for trying to save Laurent, who escaped with Fallou (Eriq Ebouaney).

"L'Invisible" - highlights

Genet's backstory revealed that she worked at the Louvre as part of the janitorial staff and was disgusted by the visitors lack of appreciation for the magnificent display of the art at the world famous art museum. This story is set on the onset of the outbreak and watched as things began to unfold. This included the heartbreaking loss of her husband to a walker right before her eyes. But, before you start to sympathize with her, her actions as an evil leader far out weighs any emotional attachments to her character.

The ceremony preparations were underway, led by Losang's (Joel de la Fuente) new right-hand gal, Jacinta (Nassima Benchicou). This ceremony would put Laurent in harm's way, as he was to be bitten by a walker to prove his destiny, as they believed he would be immune to the bite. Losang resorts to using tea to keep Laurent drugged and docile during the ceremony, which is, thankfully, interrupted by Daryl, Isabelle (Clemence Poesy), and Fallou (Eriq Ebouaney).

Sylvie (Laïka Blanc-Francard) prays for strength to protect Laurent and although she ends up dying, does her best to alert everyone of the plans for the boy and to locate him with the intent to protect him. A shocking moment in the episode is when Losang uses Sylvie, Laurent's close friend, as the walker that will issue the bite. Luckily, Daryl intervenes and puts Sylvie out of her undead misery.

Carol is in her element at Maison Mere, headquarters of Genet's Pouvoir, where, although she is technically a captive, she begins her search for clues to Daryl's whereabouts. She encounters Genet while looking at the Mona Lisa, which Genet assures her is the original as she's "the one who took it off the f**king wall." There is a great clip where Carol's smile mirrors that of the Mona Lisa, as she, too, has something to hide. Carol gets a glimpse of Genet's power when she forces one of her Guerriers to eat stew from the floor for bullying another.

Genet and Carol get honest with each other. Carol tells almost the whole truth to Genet and feels she is making headway. Then she learns of Genet's double-cross. She intends to use a walker army she will create from the members of her Guerriers, along with Carol. The experiments that Carol saw were just the beginning of Genet's plans to have an undead army under her control. (can't see that backfiring at all)

Daryl and Isabelle's love seems to blossom. Daryl kicks some butt at the Nest, and then he and Isabelle are held captive, waiting for some type of torture from Losang, who is trying to discover Laurent's location. The pair share another tender moment when she asks for a story so she can hear his voice, to which he obliges and tells his story of traveling to France with the primary objective of returning to his family. Then something changes, implying that meeting her resulted in that change.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon - The Book of Carol returns on October 20 with episode 4, "La Paradis Pour Toi."
