Recently, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon announced that Emmy-winning Stephen Merchant has been added to the cast of the third season. This was an exciting addition to the already impressive cast. Showrunner David Zabel talked about another exciting development regarding Merchant's role in an interview with Collider.

In February 2024, TWD Chief Content Officer Scott M. Gimple announced that there would be a third season of The Walking Dead - Daryl Dixon. In the summer of 2024, actor and executive producer Norman Reedus announced that the series' third and possibly fourth seasons would be set and filmed in Spain. As exciting as it was to see France during the apocalypse, it was more exciting to learn viewers would get to see more of the world.

During an interview with Collider, Zabel was asked about anything he could tease for the third installment of the series. He stated that while the season would be set in Spain, "there is an interesting stop in between France and Spain that's pretty cool and exciting." He also shared that Merchant's character makes his appearance in the premiere episode of the season and that he plays "a very interesting character" who is encountered at the start of the season.

Zabel adds:

" Yes. Well, there's a reason they end up in Spain. The end of the finale also explains where they're headed at the end of Season 2, which is the beginning of connecting all of that."

Tread lightly, as this article contains spoilers for season 2 of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon - The Book of Carol.

Where this pit stop will be is anyone's guess, but it is exciting to learn this information. The second season's finale airs on Nov. 3, and it looks like Daryl and Carol will come against the alliance of Anna (Lukerya Ilyashenko) and Jacinta (Nassima Benchicou). All of the previous big bads of the season, Genet (Anne Charrier) and Losang (Joel de le Fuente), had been killed in previous episodes, so someone has to get in the way of the fleeing towards Spain.

Ultimately most fans of Daryl and Carol hope to see them return to American and reunite with their family members there. There is no announced plans for a huge reunion but fans continue to be hopeful.
