It's been a long time since we've had any big news about The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 4. After learning Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride, and Daryl Dixon are skipping San Diego Comic-Con this year, it's probably going to be even longer until we learn what's happening with the final season of the hit Walking Dead spinoff.
Thankfully, a recent update about Daryl Dixon's sister series, The Walking Dead: Dead City, is the first bit of good news we've had about the Daryl Dixon season 4 premiere in a while.
Dead City season 3 premieres on Sunday, July 26, following a very big weekend for the series at SDCC. AMC just revealed recently that the Dead City season 3 finale will air on Sunday, Sept. 13. And that's good for Daryl Dixon season 4 for a few reasons.
Daryl Dixon season 4 could premiere in September 2026 after all
Historically, new seasons of Dead City and Daryl Dixon have never overlapped on AMC. Dead City has always been a late spring or early summer series, while Daryl Dixon's new seasons have always premiered in September.
Dead City season 3's premiere on Sunday, July 26, is obviously a little later than we were expecting, and when we learned the release date, we all wondered if AMC would have to bump Daryl Dixon season 4 back to October to give some space around the other Walking Dead franchise. It would be silly to assume that AMC would air these shows back-to-back when there's always been a few months, minimum, between each season.
It's still possible, of course, that Daryl Dixon could be pushed back to October, or even later, but the fact that Dead City season 3 ends on Sunday, Sept. 13, seems to point to Daryl Dixon season 4 possibly premiering in its normal month.
For the first three seasons, Daryl Dixon had new seasons premiere on Sept. 10, 2023, Sept. 27, 2024, and Sept. 7, 2025, respectively. While I don't think that we'll see Daryl Dixon season 4 premiere on or before Sept. 13, we could definitely see Daryl Dixon season 4 premiere on Sunday, Sept. 20, or Sunday, Sept. 27.
As of right now, that's when I'm expecting to see Daryl Dixon season 4 premiere on AMC, either Sept. 20 or Sunday, Sept. 27.
Daryl Dixon's SDCC absence also raises premiere date questions
Heading into the SDCC, I think everyone was expecting Daryl Dixon to get a huge sendoff at the biggest convention of the summer. The Walking Dead has always been a huge staple of SDCC, and while we're getting the Dead City season 3 panel and screening, it's safe to say that Walking Dead fans are feeling Daryl Dixon's absence.
It's the final season of Daryl Dixon after all. We know fans want to celebrate that with the cast. It could be the last time we would see Reedus and McBride at a convention while their show is still on. Of course, there are discussions to bring back some key Walking Dead stars, including Reedus, at the moment, so this might not be the end.
Still, it would be great for the show to go out with a bang at a convention. That's leading fans to believe that, if Daryl Dixon season 4 is going to premiere later than expected, we could see Reedus, McBridge, and other cast, creative team, and crew at New York Comic Con, which begins on Oct. 8 and runs through Oct. 11.
Now, that's just speculation at this point, but I do think it would be a bit of a missed opportunity if we don't see Daryl Dixon at a convention promoting the season before the final season airs.
Of course, AMC has confirmed that Daryl Dixon season 4 will air later this year. Production wrapped at the end of 2025, so we have to assume it will be ready to go soon. It's just a matter of where it slots into AMC's schedule.
