SXSW 2025 has generated a ton of incredible new moves, including many horror and thriller titles. Watch out for Clown in a Cornfield, Drop, Good Boy, and The Surrender, which premieres on Shudder on May.
The Surrender is the feature directorial debut of Julia Max who drew inspiration for the film from a personal experience with losing her stepdad. Executive producers include Susan Gelb, Adam Maffei, and Rob Massar (Peak Season), with Brenden Rodriguez and Daniel Schwab co-producing and KW Campol as associate producer. Mia Chang(It Follows),Lovell Holder(Peak Season),and Ian McDonald(Woman of the Hour) of Codependent Films are producing.
Fear the Walking Dead's Colby Minifie joins Grey's Anatomy alum Kate Burton as a daughter and mother whose already strained relationship is further tested upon the death of the family patriarch. After the mother, who desperately wants to reunite with her dead husband, enlists a mysterious stranger to resurrect him the woman must put aside their differences in a fight for their lives.
Additional cast members include Neil Sandilands (Sweet Tooth), Vaughn Armstrong (Star Trek: Enterprise), Pete Ploszek (Destroy All Neighbors), Chelsea Alden (13 Reasons Why) and Lola Prince Kelly (Stoneheart).

What does Colby Minifie star in?

Minifie is best known for her role as Ashley Barrett, Vought International exec, in Prime Video's The Boys, a role she will reprise in season 5. She has reprised this role in The Boys Presents: Diabolical and Gen V. Walking Dead fans remember her as Virginia, the leader of the Pioneers, in seasons 5 & 6 of Fear the Walking Dead.
Other roles she is known for include Ginger in several episodes of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Melanie in Homebody, Yvonne in I'm Thinking of Ending Things and Doris is Radium Girls.
On April 1, 2025, Minifie will star alongside fellow Fear TWD actors Alycia Debnam-Carey, Austin Amelio, and Craig High, in a short film Lovebug. The film is written by David Mahmoudieh who directs with Jalaludin Trautmann (who was Director of Photography for Fear TWD) and follows a woman who enters a strangers hotel room seeking to find something she left behind.
