Can you hear the horde of walkers getting closer and closer? Since 2023, Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier have taken over the small screen in their own standalone adventure courtesy of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. Throughout the years, we've seen the iconic duo explore the streets of Europe and face no shortage of horrors along the way, all in the hopes of eventually returning home. Unfortunately, every great tale must come to an end, and that's exactly what will happen next year.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 4 will mark the end of the acclaimed spin-off show, and there are a lot of mixed feelings in the air. Norman Reedus, who plays the role of Daryl, posted an emotional farewell message on his social media accounts after filming wrapped. To make things all the more complicated, AMC delayed the final season from 2026 to an unspecified date in 2027. But while Negan and Maggie are the ones currently stealing the spotlight thanks to The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3, we've finally gotten a look at all the horrors that await next year.
AMC releases the first teaser trailer for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 4
Who knew that 20 seconds alone could be more than enough to make us feel terrified and excited all the same? The first teaser trailer for the final season of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon is finally out, and while it unfortunately does not give us a release date, it does showcase just a fraction of the dangers that Daryl and Carol will face during their time in Spain.
The teaser trailer also gives us our first look at Jimmy Smits' new character, Captain Alejandro Perkins, who, by the looks of it, serves as the main antagonist in the upcoming season. Furthermore, AMC also released a brief synopsis of the storyline set to be explored in the upcoming batch of episodes:
"In the final season, while crossing the ravaged badlands of Spain, Daryl (Reedus) and Carol (McBride) grasp onto hope – and each other – as uncertainty about their future grows. Smits plays "Captain Alejandro Perkins," a former U.S. Navy officer and medical doctor who found a unique way to thrive during the apocalypse."
Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride have been portraying these iconic characters from The Walking Dead world for 16 years now, and Daryl Dixon season 4 could very well mark their last-ever appearances. After all, we don't know anything about the franchise's direction beyond 2027. Dead City hasn't been renewed for season 4 just yet, and that long-awaited reunion project hasn't been officially greenlit just yet despite fan demand.
AMC has confirmed that The Walking Dead will always be an integral part of its slate and that we'll get more stories set in the post-apocalyptic world for years to come. As for which stories and characters will get to steal the spotlight, that much remains unknown. So, for the time being, it's best to assume that Daryl and Carol's journey is coming to a definite end unless an official AMC announcement says otherwise.
"The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon also stars Romain Levi, Eduardo Noriega, Óscar Jaenada, Candela Saitta and Hugo Arbués and is executive produced by showrunner David Zabel, Scott M. Gimple, Reedus, McBride, Greg Nicotero, Brian Bockrath, Angela Kang, Jason Richman, Dan Percival and Steve Squillante. "
With a bit of luck, it won't be long before we get a proper release date for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 4. Fortunately, the marketing push for this final chapter has already started, and chances are that it won't slow down any time soon.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 4 will be released in 2027.
