It’s been 15 years since Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes killed Jon Bernthal’s Shane Walsh in The Walking Dead season 2. Now, Bernthal is the star of the biggest Netflix show of 2026.
In the company’s Q2 earnings report, Netflix officially confirmed His and Hers is the most popular show of the first six months of the year. His and Hers racked up 104 million views across those six months, just four million views higher than the second most popular show, Bridgerton season 4.
Bernthal’s hit Netflix thriller was an immediate success when it premiered on Netflix on Jan. 8, 2026. Even after it premiered, I don’t think anyone predicted it would be the biggest Netflix show of the first half of 2026. As it turns out, that’s exactly what happened.

His and Hers has been at the top of the Netflix charts all year long
His and Hers is based on the book of the same name by Alice Feeney. In the series, Bernthal stars as Detective Jack Harper, who is called in to investigate the murder of a woman in a small town. It just so happens that a person from Jack’s past, Anna Andrews, played by the great Tessa Thompson, is trying to break the case open as a TV reporter. As the bodies pile up, the pressure mounts on Jack to make an arrest.
For those monitoring Netflix ratings this year, it should be no surprise that His and Hers is the top Netflix show of 2026 so far. His and Hers had been popping up on all the big ratings reports, including Netflix, Nielsen, and others.
The series is currently the No. 10 most popular Netflix release (English language) of all time in its first 90 days after release. Aside from Harlan Coben’s Run Away, which premiered on New Year’s Day, His and Hers had more time than any other Netflix show to rack up more views so far this year.
That’s nothing against His and Hers. It’s just the truth, but it doesn’t mean that just because it had extra time to get more viewership that it’s not worthy of the praise. Most new Netflix shows never reached the 100 million view mark.
With that said, by the end of the year, other Netflix shows will have had more time to finally catch up to His and Hers. It’s already starting to happen.
I Will Find You, another Harlan Coben Netflix show, racked up 64 million views in just 12 days on Netflix after its premiere on June 18. Including I Will Find You’s July numbers, it’s already up to 86 million views in its first four weeks on Netflix, which means it should move ahead of Bridgerton and His and Hers within a few weeks on the list of the biggest Netflix shows of the year so far.
Still, it’s a very impressive achievement for Bernthal, Thompson, and the whole team behind the great series. Hopefully, this leads Netflix to work with the pair more in the near future, but I’m guessing it will be pretty difficult.
Bernthal is starring in two of the biggest movies of the year, The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The Odyssey, which includes a few other Walking Dead stars, premieres in theaters on July 16. Brand New Day hits theaters just two weeks later on July 30.
Stay tuned for more news about Bernthal and his other projects. It already looks like they will be box office hits.
