Lauren Cohan just booked a new show, Stillwater, a Prime Video horror series, and the latest update might not be great news for The Walking Dead: Dead City season 4 and fans of the Walking Dead spinoff.
According to a report from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Cohan, along with the rest of the cast and crew, will start filming Stillwater in Georgia on Dec. 14, 2026. Production will reportedly last through April 28, 2027.
That's great news for those looking forward to Stillwater! It sounds like a great series that revolves around a weird small town with some dark secrets. It's not good news, though, for Dead City.
Dead City season 4 likely wouldn't start filming until May 2027 at the earliest
Of course, that's assuming AMC will be picking up the series. Dead City season 3 came to an end on Sept. 13, and we still haven't heard if the series is going to be renewed for season 4. There's been a lot of talk about a potential fourth season, and Scott M. Gimple, the executive producer, recently revealed that he thought there was a good chance the series gets picked up.
Well, it still hasn't happened, despite multiple opportunities for AMC to share the good news, including during The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon panel at New York Comic Con earlier this month.
Now, before fans go blaming Cohan or harassing the Dead City star. This is not Cohan's problem or her fault at all! AMC has yet to decide what's next for Dead City. Clearly, there are no plans to start filming before April should a renewal happen anyway. We don't know what Cohan's contract looks like, but I don't think she would be able to sign on to this new series if there was any chance that Dead City season 4 would be filming at the same time.
The fact that Dead City season 4 hasn't been announced yet is obviously on AMC. They are the ones, at the end of the day, that make the call about Dead City. Until the network reveals if the show is renewed or canceled, everyone, including the creative team, cast, and crew, are just waiting to find out what's going to happen.
Assuming Dead City season 4 does happen, it's not great, obviously, that production would not be able to get up and running until the spring of 2027. Stilllwater will film in Georgia, but Dead City season 4 would film in New England, so Cohan could, in theory, bounce back and forth between sets, but that's quite unlikely.
If production doesn't start until the late spring, that would mean that we'd be waiting until 2028 until the new season is released, at the earliest. Where things stand right now, it's hard to imagine seeing Dead City season 4 before 2028 anyway.
The longer the wait is for the Dead City season 4 renewal, the longer we're going to have to wait until we actually see the series. With Daryl Dixon season 4 arriving on AMC in February 2027 and nothing else on the docket as far as The Walking Dead is concerned, there's going to be an extremely long wait between the end of Daryl Dixon and the next Walking Dead project. Hopefully, that's Dead City season 4 sometime in 2028.
If it's not, well, then it's going to be an even longer wait for whatever comes next in the world of The Walking Dead.
Of course, we'll keep you posted on what happens with Dead City's future. Hopefully, we learn that the series is renewed for season 4 very soon.
