When The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3 premieres on Sunday, July 26, there will be at least three new cast members playing major roles.
Aimee Garcia, Raul Castillo, and Jimmi Simpson are the three big stars joining the Dead City season 3 cast. We just got a closer look at the three new stars in the new Dead City season 3 teaser.
While we learned the new cast members quite a while ago, Seth Hoffman, the showrunner of Dead City, opened up about those new cast members in an interview with Bleeding Cool. Hoffman also shared a description of the characters they'll be playing. Let's meet them!
Aimee Garcia
Character: Renata
Aimee Garcia is such an awesome choice to join the Dead City season 3 cast. I was such a big fan of hers in Fox's and Netflix's Lucifer and Dexter. She's also been a key player on Criminal Minds: Evolution recently.
In season 3, Garcia stars as Renata, the leader of a new crew that crosses paths with Negan and Maggie in season 3. It looks like, based on the new trailer, that they will be working together against New Babylon in the upcoming season.
According to Hoffman's interview with Bleeding Cool, Renata has "history with the Croat [Željko Ivanek], and Renata is the leader and matriarch of the family."
Raul Castillo
Character: Luis
The first time I remember seeing Raul Castillo was way back in Riverdale season 1, but he's gone on to much, much bigger things ahead of his Dead City season 3 debut. He recently starred in HBO's Task, and he was terrific in that series.
This also isn't Castillo's first zombie series, either! He starred in Netflix's Army of the Dead and played an integral role in that movie.
In Dead City season 3, Castillo stars as Luis, Renata's brother who will link up with Negan and Maggie in their pursuit to take back the city, as Maggie mentions in the new trailer. It's more than for Luis in Maggie's story, though.
Hoffman revealed, via Bleeding Cool, that "Luis is a doctor. So he is a critical resource there, and Hershel realizes that he—following in his grandfather's footsteps—wants to go into medicine. So Luis has a really important mentor role to play with Hershel."
I'm excited to see that play out in the third season!
Jimmi Simpson
Character: Dillard
Jimmi Simpson is probably the most well-known of the three new Dead City stars, but it really just depends on what you've seen. Dead City definitely feels different than anything Simpson has done before. Most fans will recognize him from starring in comedies like It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, although he was excellent in Westworld and Dark Matter.
In Dead City season 3, Simpson stars as Dillard, another one of the characters who joins Maggie and Negan's quest to take back Manhattan.
Hoffman revealed, via Bleeding Cool:
"Dillard is a character who ingeniously found a way to survive by himself, but there's a psychological cost to having been by yourself for all those years. Renata is a flip side to Maggie, and Dillard is a flip side to Negan."
I can't wait to see what Simpson brings to Dead City, but based on the trailer, it looks like he's going to be hilarious.
