The teaser trailer for Resident Evil has finally landed, and it immediately sets the tone for what looks like a brutal, fast-moving survival horror reboot. Instead of easing viewers in with exposition or world-building, the footage throws us straight into a collapsing outbreak with no warning and no safety net!

At the center of the 2026 zombie flick is Bryan, played by Austin Abrams, a medical courier whose routine job delivery becomes the entry point into a full-scale catastrophe. In the trailer, we watch as Bryan treks through a snowy landscape to reach a house. After making his way inside, he notices that it's empty. He then attempts to use the house phone and dials his girlfriend. This is when we realize something is terribly wrong.

Bryan first apologizes to his girlfriend for their disconnected call from earlier before explaining that he's currently in a very "f*cked-up" situation at the moment. We're then shown quick clips of Bryan encountering and fighting his way through mutated creatures.

There's even a scene showing him running through an empty street as these grotesque creatures begin falling from the rooftops of buildings and crashing into cars. What makes this scene really disturbing is the blood that splatters as each body makes impact. Overall, the trailer escalates into an almost nonstop sequence of survival chaos, with Bryan forced to navigate a collapsing urban nightmare where danger appears from every direction.

Take a look at the brief yet thrilling teaser trailer below for the upcoming Resident Evil reboot!

Behind the film is director Zach Cregger, who made a major splash in horror with Barbarian. He's also known for the 2025 box office horror hit Weapons. Not only did Cregger helm the Resident Evil reboot, but he also co-wrote the screenplay with Shay Hatten (Army of the Dead).

The movie is based on the long-running Resident Evil video game franchise from Capcom, but it is not a direct adaptation of any single game entry. Instead, it's an original story set within the same universe. In addition, it serves as the eighth movie in the Resident Evil film series and as the second reboot overall.

While Abrams stars in the leading role as Bryan, the film's cast also includes Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, Paul Walter Hauser, and Johnno Wilson. The only other significant detail that we know about the Resident Evil reboot is its release date. You can expect the film to hit theaters on Sept.18, 2026.

Along with the teaser, Sony Pictures also shared new images from the upcoming zombie movie!
