Andrew Lincoln and Dania Gurira talk The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live spinoff of The Walking Dead series at Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour. They were joined by new Walking Dead universe actors Matthew Jeffers, Craig Tate, Lesley-Ann Brandt, and Terry O'Quinn and showrunner Scott M. Gimple.
Don't miss the return of Rick and Michonne in The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live on Sunday, February 25. The new spinoff will continue the epic love story of the two characters portrayed by Lincoln and Gurira in the main series. Fans have longed for the return of the two characters, and the new series will chronicle events the two have experienced since departing that series and beyond.
Pollyanna McIntosh will also return as Jadis, who has climbed the CRM (Civic Republic Military) ranks to become Warrant Officer Jadis Stokes. Andrew Bachelor and Breeda Wool also return as Bailey and Aiden, featured in Gurira's final episode during season 10. Announced newcomers include Matthew Jeffers at Nat, Craig Tate as Donald Okafor, Lesley-Ann Brandt as Pearl Thorne, and Terry O'Quinn, who will portray Major General Beale of the CRM.
The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live
Gimple stated that The Ones Who Live could continue into a second season and also teased the possibility of crossovers with other series. This series will expand The Walking Dead universe with a broader view of what has gone on in the world since the outbreak with the highly advanced technology of the CRM.
The Ones Who Live will be different than other series in the universe due to the true love between Rick and Michonne.
""The epic love story aspect is what distinguishes it from other iterations of this world. We didn't get to explore it a ton on the (original series). When love is the driving force, when it is the propelling thing, when it is making the plot move, what does that look like?""
- Danai Gurira
Lincoln shared that he and Gurira watched a lot of Bridgerton to prepare for the new series.
""This has been a long time coming, this story, and I love this character and this is a love story. This is essentially the DNA of the original episode was a man in search of his family""
- Andrew Lincoln
The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live premieres Feb. 25 on AMC and AMC+.
