The Ones Who Live episode 5 features surprise cameo and unexpected death
By Renee Hansen
The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live has one remaining episode, which will air on March 31 on AMC and AMC+. This will be followed by the commerical free premiere of AMC's highly anticipated Parish, which is then followed by a first look at season 2 of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, subtitled The Book of Carol.
The fifth episode of The Ones Who Live teased fans with the trailer featuring a hooded and cloaked figure. Many believed it would be Morgan Jones (Lennie James) who, in his final episode of Fear the Walking Dead, vowed to go in search of his old friend Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln). There were even multiple teasers that gave fans the impression Morgan would appear in The Ones Who Live. (there is one more episode, so perhaps?) In a shocking and unexpected reveal, the hooded man was Father Gabriel Stokes (Seth Gilliam), a man who was part of Rick's group in The Walking Dead series as well as a romantic partner of Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh).
In an interesting twist to Gabriel and Jadis' stories, viewers learn that they had met yearly to break away from their other lives. They used these moments to catch up, and Gabriel tried to get her to break away from her CRM responsibilities to return with him and become Anne again.
Sadly, this didn't happen, as Jadis needed the CRM to feel safe and have a sense of worth, which resulted in her death.
In pursuit of Rick and Michonne, who defected against the CRM, Jadis winds up getting bit by a walker. This is after she was wounded by Michonne, a wound that wasn't likely life-threatening if treated. In a last-ditch effort to redeem herself, she gives up vital information to Rick and Michonne regarding a dossier that would reveal the location of Alexandria and their roles within the community.
In the end, Jadis asks Rick to do what he promised: kill her. He mercifully kills her so she doesn't reanimate, and that is the end of Jadis' long-running story, which spanned three different series.
Bravo to Pollyanna McIntosh for bringing life to Jadis. While always looking out for herself and flipping sides to survive, Jadis did give up the information that would keep Rick, Michonne, and their family safe.
