The Lionsgate Television and Blumhouse Television series will feature Michael Seitzman as showrunner and executive producer. He wrote the pilot episode with Jason Richman and Seitzman, Richman, Grisham, Jason Blum, and David Gernert will serve as executive producers.
The Rainmaker marks USA Network's first in a series of shows as part of a planned relaunch as a source for original scripted series.
The story follows Rudy Baylor, a newly graduated law student, who comes against Leo Drummond, known as a courtroom lion, and his law school girlfriend, Sarah Plankmore. Rudy, his boss, and her paralegal uncover conspiracies connected to the mysterious death of their client's son.
Fogler has been cast as Melvin Pritcher, a nurse with an explosive secret at the heart of a vast conspiracy. He joins previously announced Milo Callaghan in the role of Rudy, John Slattery as Leo Drummond, and Madison Iseman as Sarah Plankmore. Lana Parrilla joined the cast as Jocelyn "Bruiser" Stone, with J.P. Byrne cast as Deck Shifflet, and Robyn Cara will play Kelly Riker.
In 1997, famed director Francis Ford Coppola adapted Grisham's The Rainmaker into a movie. The film stars Matt Damon, Claire Danes, Jon Voight, Mary Kay Place, Mickey Rourke, Danny DeVito, Danny Glover, Roy Scheider, Virginia Madsen, and Teresa Wright in her final film role. The adaptation received positive reviews and holds a 81% on Rotten Tomatoes.
