Walking Dead alum Kirk Acevedo cast in season 2 of Taylor Sheridan's series Lioness

Actor Kirk Acevedo has played many notable roles during his career, including HBO's Oz, the sci-fi series Fringe, and starring alongside Walking Dead alum Michael Cudlitz in the Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks created Band of Brothers. Deadline reports that Acevedo's next role will be in the second season of Taylor Sheridian's wildly popular Lioness series.
Also known as Special Ops: Lioness, the series is an espionage thriller that premiered on Paramount+ in 2023. Inspired by an actual U.S. Military program, it became the streamer's most-watched worldwide series upon its debut. Produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios, exclusively for Paramount Network, the second season will premiere on the streamer beginning October 27, 2024.
Lioness is led by Zoe Saldaña, who also executive produces, as Joe, the CIA operative in charge of the Lioness program. The series also stars Laysla De Oliveira, Genesis Rodriguez, Michael Kelly, Morgan Freeman, and Nicole Kidman, who executive produces.
Acevedo who will portray Gutierrez, a toughened FBI agent, was announced with Max Martini who lays a man hunter for the Special Forces team named Tracter, and Patricia De Leon who will play Maria, a wealthy Dallas resident. These roles are recurring for the second season of the series.
The story follows Joe as she tackles the difficult task of balancing her personal and professional lives while running the program. The story continues in season 2 when Joe, Kaitlyn (Kidman), and Byron (Kelly) command an operative to infiltrate a previously unknown threat. Joe, feeling pressure from her life and career, confronts the sacrifices she has made for the Lioness program.
Paramount+ will debut the eight-part season 2 of Lioness on October 27, 2024. The first two episodes will be released on that date, and new installments will be released weekly through the season finale on December 8.
Kirk Acevedo - recent roles and more
Recently, Acevedo appeared in an episode of the third and final season of Star Trek: Picard, which also stars TWDU alum Michelle Hurd. In 2022, he had a guest-starring role in another Paramount+ series, The Offer, which showcases the development and production of The Godfather, Francis Ford Coppola's gangster movie. This series also stars TWDU alum Dan Fogler as Coppola.
Throughout his career Acevedo has had some memorable roles including Jose Ramse in Syfy's 12 Monkey's, Ricardo Diaz in the CW's Arrow, and Dominick Ramos in Kingdom.
In season 4 of The Walking Dead, Acevedo portrayed Mitch Dolgen, who, with his brother Pete (Enver Gjokaj), was part of Martinez's (Jose Pablo Cantillo) group. After Martinez's death, the group came under the control of the Governor (David Morrissey) who led the attack on the prison. Mitch is remembered for his role as the tank driver who took down the prison fences and then encountered Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus), who, after blowing up the tank with a grenade, shot Mitch with an arrow, even after he surrendered.
