Deadline has the exclusive on British actor Andrew Lincoln's newest role. Lincoln is best known for his role as Rick Grimes in The Walking Dead and the spinoff The Ones Who Live. This role has kept him busy since 2010, with a four-year hiatus, and now he will return to a new role in an ITV thriller, Cold Water.

The story is written by playwright David Ireland and produced by Sister, who also produced Netflix's recent series, Eric. It will air on ITV, aka Channel 3, the British free-to-air public broadcast network. Ireland is known for his work on the Sky series The Lovers and his appearance as Sean Devlin in the Channel 4 outrageously funny Derry Girls. Lincoln will star and serve as an executive producer on the project, a position he also took on for The Ones Who Live series.

Lincoln will be joined by Ewen Bremmer (Trainspotting), Indira Varma (Obsession), and Eve Myles (Keeping Faith). This story follows Lincoln's John, a middle-aged man unsatisfied with his role as
a stay-at-home dad. He encounters Tommy (Bremmer), his next-door neighbor, in a backwater Scottish village where John moves his family. His wife, Fiona (Varma), despises Tommy, and as the friendship grows, she becomes suspicious, questioning if Tommy is all he seems to be.

Andrew Lincoln - other roles

While he is best known as Rick Grimes, Lincoln is known for his role as Mark, a man in love with his best friend's wife, in the hit Christmas movie Love Actually. He is also known for his roles in the Channel 4 sitcom Teachers and the ITV series Afterlife. He directed two episodes of season 3 of Teachers, for which he was nominated for the BAFTA for Best New Director (Fiction) in 2004.

He starred in Penguin Bloom (2020) with Naomi Watts, an Australian drama based on the book by Cameron Bloom and Bradley Trevor Greive. The story is based on the actual events in the life of Sam and Cameron Bloom's family when they encounter Penguin, an Australian magpie.

In 2022, Lincoln starred with Essie Davis and Hannah Galway in an episode of the Netflix original Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities. He played a character named Edgar Bradley in episode 8, the season finale, "The Murmuring."

He has also done several voice-overs for government information campaigns, AOL, Adidas, Classic FM, and the BBC.

Fans of The Walking Dead noticed Lincoln's voice-over work during season 5, episode 9, "What's Happened and What's Going On." A British voice was heard on the radio during Tyreese's (Chad L. Colman) hallucinations; this was Lincoln's work.
