Who is Silas in The Walking Dead: World Beyond? Will he appear in The Ones Who Live?
By Renee Hansen
Actor Hal Cumpston is known for his roles as Zach in Nine Perfect Strangers, Leary in The Greatest Beer Run Ever, and Oliver Twist in The Artful Dodger, streaming on Disney+. The Walking Dead universe knows him as Silas Plaskett, a character in the second spinoff, The Walking Dead: World Beyond.
Silas is part of a group who lived in the Campus Colony, a satellite of Omaha, Nebraska, whose fate was also revealed in the new spinoff, The Ones Who Live. Silas grew up behind the walls of Campus Colony, shielding him from the outside world that is overrun by the undead. When he and three of his friends venture outside those walls, they are shocked at what they find.
After the outbreak, Silas lived in Omaha with his mother and abusive father. During a violent altercation with his father, Silas badly beats him, which leads to his father's death. He was tried and acquitted due to self-defense and would be moved to Campus Colony to live with his uncle. Due to his violent past, he was shunned by most. Still, he would eventually become friends with Iris (Aliyah Royale), who introduced him to her sister Hope (Alexa Mansour) and Elton (Nicolas Cantu).
At the end of season 1 of World Beyond, Silas gives himself up to the Civic Republic Military (CRM) in order to save his friends. In season 2, he is paired with Master Sergeant Dennis Graham (Max Osinsiki) who is charge of a culling facility, the same type that Rick is seen working in The Ones Who Live, and is issued the same jacket and kill stick.
Silas and his friends discover the brutality of the CRM and that their former community and Omaha were destroyed by the chlorine gas created by the organization's team of scientists who were forced to work there.
By the end of the series, Dennis is mortally wounded and tells Silas to kill him, as the CRM already knows he is a traitor, and Silas will seem like one of them for killing Dennis. He carries about the plan, which eventually puts him in the presence of Warrant Officer Jadis Stokes.
Silas tells her the story Dennis fed to him, but she quickly sees through his lies. But she is impressed that even after everything that happened with his father's death and mother's abandonment, Silas still went through with the plan Dennis laid out. She tells him the CRM needs people like him and takes him on as a special project. This would allow Silas to carry out the original plan of revealing the true nature of the CRM.
Many viewers have a theory that the person Rick is talking to below, in a new image for season 3 of The Ones Who Live, is Silas. The only flaw in this is Cumpston, who plays Silas, is 6'2, and Lincoln is 5'10, and Rick is looking down at this person. Silas could return in The Ones Who Live, regardless of who this is. He, like Rick, could have had a plan but was eventually resigned to the fact he could never leave. Learning if Silas is still part of the CRM will be exciting.
