Steven Yeun has a new supernatural Netflix series in the works, but his next Netflix project is coming a lot sooner.
This fall, Yeun will star in Animals, a new Netflix film from Ben Affleck. Earlier this month, Netflix announced Animals premieres on Oct. 9, 2026.
Animals tells the story of Mayor Mark Kimball, played by Affleck, who tries to do whatever it takes to get his son back after he is kidnapped.
Netflix also shared the first teaser for the film, which features Yeun in a starring role, alongside Affleck, Kerry Washington, and Gillian Anderson. Adriana Paz, Ray Fisher, Luis Gerardo Méndez, Matt Gerald, and Mark Kassen round out the rest of the cast.
In addition to his acting and directing responsibilities, Affleck also co-wrote the screenplay with Billy Ray and Connor O. McIntyre. When Affleck directs and stars in a project, it’s almost always good. I’m sure you remember Argo and The Town.
So far, we’ve only seen that teaser for the film, but it’s a good start! We were expecting to see Animals a little bit later this year based on how big and popular we think this movie is going to be. Netflix usually saves its biggest movies until November and December around Thanksgiving and Christmas.
It’s hard to say if Animals has award season potential or not. Usually, Netflix rolls out movies it thinks have potential to get nominated for Oscars, Golden Globes, and other big awards in the fall, like a lot of the other studios. We’ll just have to wait and see!
Animals is another Netflix project starring Steven Yeun
Animals is the second project Yeun has worked with Affleck. The pair also starred in Netflix’s The Rip with Matt Damon earlier this year. The Rip is one of the best Netflix movies of the year, and it’s actually the second-most popular Netflix movie of the year so far.
Yeun has become quite a Netflix star over the past few years after starring in Netflix’s Beef. He won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series for his role in the series. Then, he turned in an excellent performance in The Rip. I’ve mentioned it a few times before, but I think he was the best actor in the movie. That doesn’t happen in movies with Damon and Affleck. In terms of box office draw, those are two of the most successful actors of all time.
Now, Yeun heads into Animals with another Netflix TV project on the books. That’s in addition to all the voice work he’s done on several animated projects, major movies, and more.
What I’m trying to say is that it’s a great time to be a fan of Yeun. We loved him as Glenn Rhee on seven seasons of The Walking Dead. If you are new to the series or Yeun as a performer, it’s also a great time to become a fan of his, too.
