Walking Dead fans, it’s finally happening. The Walking Dead crossover we’ve been obsessing over since its announcement has finally been given an official release date. And honestly, we can barely contain our excitement.

News of this crossover broke back in mid December 2025. However, a release date was not revealed at the time. All that was given was a January 2026 window, leaving fans anxiously guessing exactly when they would get to experience it.

Would it be in early January, or would we have to wait until the very end of the month? Now, the mystery has been solved, and the countdown is officially on. Fans everywhere can finally mark their calendars and prepare for the event they’ve been patiently waiting for!

The Walking Dead and World War Z video game crossover launches January 2026

World War Z, the 2019 third-person zombie shooter video game based on the hit Paramount movie of the same name, is releasing a special crossover DLC (downloadable content) with The Walking Dead. According to Variety, this DLC launches Jan. 29 on PlayStation 4 & 5, Xbox One & Series X/S, and PC. If you go the PC route, you can download the expansion through Steam or the Epic Games Store. We're only a week away from its launch, so this is really exciting news!

Now, what's included in the World War Z x The Walking Dead DLC? The upcoming crossover delivers an all-new campaign experience that brings The Walking Dead universe directly into World War Z. The DLC features three story-driven missions, each set within iconic locations that longtime Walking Dead fans will immediately recognize.

Players will be able to fight their way through the Prison, the Alexandria Safe Zone, and Grady Memorial Hospital, all recreated specifically for this crossover. Another big highlight of the crossover is the playable roster. The DLC allows players to step into the roles of Rick Grimes, Daryl Dixon, Negan, and Michonne, each equipped with their signature weapons and combat styles. Even more exciting for fans, Andrew Lincoln and Norman Reedus return to voice their characters.

When it comes to the enemies, the DLC introduces a fresh twist on the classic zombie hordes. World War Z’s usual fast-moving Zekes have been reimagined to reflect The Walking Dead’s slower, more menacing Walkers, creating tense, strategy-driven combat. Players will also face a brand-new special enemy known as the Spiked Walker, a tougher, more resilient threat that requires careful planning and quick reflexes to take down.

Overall, the World War Z x The Walking Dead DLC is designed to feel like a true collision of two zombie worlds. Players can expect intense combat, recognizable locations, beloved characters, and new gameplay twists that make the crossover feel meaningful rather than gimmicky.

Besides this confirmed Walking Dead crossover with the World War Z video game, there's also a Walking Dead crossover spinoff series rumored to be in the works. But unfortunately, not much is known about it other than that it's expected to bring together characters from the existing Walking Dead spinoffs. The rumor started spreading last year. Now that we're in 2026, we're hoping AMC will finally give some official details.

But for now, fans will have to just look forward to this video game crossover. Additionally, Daryl Dixon season 4 is confirmed to come out sometime this year, while Dead City season 3 is expected to premiere as well.
