By Renee Hansen
During a promotional interview with Deadline for his latest series, The Madness, award-winning actor Colman Domingo updated fans on his directorial debut, Scandalous.
The Madness is a limited, original Netflix series in which Domingo portrays media pundit Muncie Daniels. In it, Daniels discovers a murder in the Poconos and becomes a suspect. The eight-part action thriller is now available to stream on Netflix and also stars Stephanie Blake (When They See Us, Orange Is the New Black), Gabrielle Graham (Twenties, 21 Thunder), John Ortiz (Silver Linings Playbook), Tamsin Topolski (The Diplomat), and Thaddeus J. Mixon.
Scandalous will team Domingo with his Euphoria co-star Sydney Sweeney. He will direct, and she will produce and star as she did in her recent film, Anyone But You. The film is centered around the “fractured love story between Sammy Davis Jr. and Kim Novak.” Domingo shares that production for Scandalous will commence after they film season 3 of Euphoria, which is expected to wrap in the summer of 2025.
Colman Domingo - Euphoria
Euphoria is a teen drama that follows high schoolers experiencing love, loss, sex, and addiction in the fictional town of East Highland, California. Domingo plays Ali, a Narcotics Anonymous sponsor, and Sweeney plays Cassie Howard, a high school student. Fans of the series are eagerly anticipating the third season's release, but they will have to wait a bit longer, as filming doesn't begin until Jan. 2025.
Domingo told Deadline that Sweeney brought him on board the Scandalous project because she thought they would work well together. The story follows Sweeney as Vertigo actress Novak and David Jonsson as Rat Pack member Sammy Davis Jr. and their love story. They fell for one another after meeting at The Steve Allen Show, where they were both guests. Soon after, rumors began to spread, and rampant racism in America threatened both their careers.
Domingo has a big year ahead with several projects in the works. He will portray Joe Jackson in the Michael Jackson biopic, Michael, and write, direct, and star as the title character in the Nat King Cole biopic.
On March 15, he will star in The Russo Brother's movie, The Electric State with an ensemble cast consisting of Millie Bobby Brown, Chris Pratt, Ke Huy Quan, Jason Alexander, Woody Harrelson, Anthony Mackie, Brian Cox, Jenny Slate, Giancarlo Esposito, and Stanley Tucci
