Walking Dead actor cast in new crime thriller, By Any Means, now filming in Atlanta

Deadline recently reported the addition of several actors to the new crime thriller, By Any Means. Included in this list is Walking Dead actor Ethan Embry, who, in a guest starring role, portrayed Carter, a resident of Alexandria, in season 6.

By Any Means is directed by Elegance Bratton, known for The Inspection, his directorial debut. The historical crime thriller is based on the Black List script CI34, written by Sascha Penn, with revisions by Theodore Witcher. It is produced by Hammerstone Studios, Thunder Road, Freedom Principle, and North.Five.Six.

Set in 1966 Mississippi, the film tells the true story of a mafia hitman hired off the books by Hoover's FBI and a black special agent who together investigate the murders of civil rights leaders.

According to Deadline, Giancarlo Esposito will portray NAACP leader Vernon Dahmer, who is murdered by the KKK for working on voter recruitment. Details regarding other characters featured in the film have yet to be disclosed.

The film is led by Mark Wahlberg, who also produces, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. Embry (Scream 7) was announced with additional cast members Emmy nominee Nicole Beharie (The Morning Show), 5x Emmy nom Giancarlo Esposito (Captain America: Brave New World), Josh Lucas (Palm Royale), Oscar nominee David Strathairn (The Luckiest Man in America), LisaGay Hamilton (The Dropout), and multiple Tony Award winner LaChanze (The Outsiders).

Earlier this year, Embry was announced for Scream 7, a film expected to release in February 2026. The seventh installment of the franchise will be directed by creator Kevin Williamson. The movie will feature the return of many faces from previous films, including Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, Scott Foley, Matthew Lillard, Mason Gooding, David Arquette, and Jasmin Savoy Brown. Joining Embry as newcomers are Joel McHale, Isabel May, Anna Camp, Mark Consuelos, Asa Germann, McKenna Grace, Celeste O'Connor, Sam Rechner, Michelle Randolph, and Jimmy Tatro.

The actor is known for his roles as Rusty Griswold in Vegas Vacation, Mark in Empire Records, a movie turning 30 this year, Preston in the teen drama, Can't Hardly Wait, TB Player in Tom Hanks' That Thing You Do, and Bobby Ray in Sweet Home Alabama.

Embry is well known for his portrayal of Coyote Bergstein in the Netflix comedy series Grace and Frankie. He played the oldest adopted son of Lily Tomlin and Sam Waterston's characters Frankie and Sol.

He has also secured a role in the upcoming, untitled, Christy Martin film which also stars fellow TWD alums Merritt Wever and Chad L. Coleman. The movie stars Sydney Sweeney as Martin and the story chronicles the boxing star's rise to fame as the most successful female boxer of the 1990s and tells of her attempted murder by her former husband.
