Raphael Bob-Waksberg is well known as the creator of the Netflix adult animated series BoJack Horseman. The series aired for six seasons and is considered by many to be one of the best animated shows of all time. Now Bob-Waksberg has created another milestone in adult animation with his new series Long Story Short, which features an appearance by a well-known Walking Dead voice actor.
The Walking Dead's Khary Payton, who portrayed King Ezekiel in the AMC series, plays the role of Mr. Hooper in episode 7 of the ten-part first season of Long Story Short. He is the father of Kendra, played by Nicole Byer.
The story follows the lives of the three Schwooper siblings who were raised in a middle-class Jewish family. The series chronicles their adult lives and jumps back in time as they look back on their highly religious upbringing.
Long Story Short was renewed for a second season ahead of its premiere on Netflix on August 22. Bob-Waksberg shared his excitement with Tudum, stating, "Wow! A Season 2?! It must be a REALLY good show. I can’t wait to watch it when it premieres on Netflix! Let’s all do that!”
In addition to Khary and Byer, the series stars Lisa Edelstein, Paul Reiser, Ben Feldman, Abbi Jacobson, Max Greenfield, and Angelique Cabral. Additionally, Dave Franco, Micheala Dietz, Gina Rodriguez, Danny Burstein, Julie Klausner, and Zoe Lister-Jones appear in recurring roles. Below are side-by-sides of some of the actors with their characters.
Long Story Short has earned a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is praised for Bob-Waksberg's writing, zany humor, and relatability of the Schwooper family. Watch the series, now streaming on Netflix.
Payton is currently screening The Faith of the Dreamer: One Woman’s Story of Racial Trauma & Healing, a personal documentary, at festivals. The film chronicles his mother, Gwendolyn Payton's journey to achieving her well-deserved degree from Macon, Georgia's Mercer University, 50 years after she completed her education.
The actor is well known for his voice roles in the Teen Titans series and Teen Titans Go! movies, as well as many other voice roles. He will voice Black Panther and Azzuri in the Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra video game, which is expected to be released in 2026, and voice Teros in the Netflix series Brawlhalla: Legends of Valhalla, which is scheduled for a December 2026 release.
In October, Payton will be a guest at the inaugural Scream City Con, a partner with The Camp Events, in St. Augustine, Florida. This immersive convention experience is unlike any con you've previously attended, featuring intimate fan experiences with your favorite celebrities. Other scheduled guests include Kim Coates, Tyler Mane, and a Twilight reunion featuring Peter Facinelli, Kellan Lutz, and Maggie Grace. The event will also celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Fright Night with William Ragsdale, Amanda Bearse, and Stephen Geoffreys. Payton will be joined by several of his TWD cast mates, including Jeff Kober, Chandler Riggs, Cooper Andrews, Paola Lazaro, Steve Coulter, and Lew Temple.
