In 2024, Variety reported that Briarcliff Entertainment had acquired North American distribution rights to Timothy Scott Bogart's Juliet & Romeo. Soon after, it was announced that Walking Dead actor Dan Fogler had been cast in the film.
Written, co-produced, and directed by Bogart, Juliet & Romeo is a musical reimaging of the story of the characters featured in William Shakespeare's play, Romeo and Juliet. Bogart produces with Jessica Martins and Chris Torto and the soundtrack was created by Bogart's Grammy Award-winning brother, E. Kidd Bogart.
Formerly titled Verona, the film features Jamie Ward and Clara Rugaard as Romeo and Juliet. The additional cast includes Fogler as the Apothecary with Jason Isaacs, Tayla Parx, Ferdia Walsh-Peelo, Rupert Graves, Rebel Wilson, Rupert Everett, Derke Jacobi, and more.
Although Shakespeare's story is a truly tragic one featuring young lovers torn apart by their families' feuding, which results in heartache for many, it is considered a love story. The young couple's love is at the heart of his play but the story also features themes of love, hate, fate, and more.
This film is only the beginning as Bogart has shared that it will be part of a trilogy. This updated version will replace Iambic Pentameter for original Pop Music to retell the greatest love story of all time.
Juliet & Romeo will be released in theaters on May 9, 2025. Watch the official trailer to sample the wonderful sights and sounds of this updated classic story.
