Many fans of The Walking Dead are also big fans of the horror genre. While the series' primary focus is the story of the survivors, the show gives a satisfactory amount of blood and guts. There is a long list of TWD actors who have starred or made appearances in movies and shows within the horror genre. In 2025, one TWD actor will make a return in the final installment of a popular horror franchise.

In season 5 of The Walking Dead, Steve Coulter was introduced as Reg Monroe, husband of Deanna (Tovah Feldshuh), leader of Alexandria. Reg was featured in four episodes, and his shocking death began a domino effect of things to come in Alexandria.

Coulter has a long list of impressive acting credits to his name and served as head writer for Tyler Perry's House of Payne and Meet the Browns. He is known for his roles in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Yellowstone, House of Cards, P-Valley, Brockmire, The Hunger Games, and three of the Insidious movies. Another horror franchise that Coulter is known for is The Conjuring, where he portrays Father Gordon. He will make his return to the franchise in the new movie, The Conjuring: Last Rites, which premieres this fall.

Last Rites marks the ninth installment of The Conjuring universe, which is a sequel to The Devil Made Me Do It (2021). This franchise is based on the true accounts of the paranormal investigative husband and wife team, Ed and Lorraine Warren. The latest movie will see the return of Michael Chaves as director, and will be produced by franchise creators James Wan and Peter Safran.

Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga return as the Warrens and are joined by Mia Tomlinson, who plays the Warrens' daughter Judy, and Ben Hardy, who plays Judy's boyfriend Tony Spera. Additional cast includes Elliot Cowan, Rebecca Calder, Kíla Lord Cassidy, Beau Gadsdon, Shannon Kook, John Brotherton, and Coulter returns as Father Gordon.

The story is based on actual events experienced by the Smurl family, who had been tormented by a demon for over a decade. As seen in the trailer below, Lorraine reveals that the demon is one that is familiar to the Warrens. She tells the family, “This thing in your house is a demon. It’s the first one that we ever encountered. She later says to Ed, “We were young. We were scared. We ran away. And after all these years, it wasn’t done with our family.”

The Conjuring: Last Rites premieres in theaters on September 5, 2025.

Coulter previously portrayed Father Gordon in The Conjuring (2013), The Conjuring 2 (2016), Annabelle Comes Home (2019), and The Devil Made Me Do It (2021).

Next, he will appear in the feature directorial debut of Maude Apatow, known for her role as Lexi Howard in HBO's Euphoria. The comedy is titled Poetic License and debuts as part of the Special Presentation section at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival in September. The cast includes Coulter, Andrew Barth Feldman, Cooper Hoffman, Nico Parker, Maisy Stella, and Apatow's mother Leslie Mann.
