At the end of The Walking Dead: Dead City season 1, Maggie (Lauren Cohan) vows to finish things with Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) as a way of reconnecting with her son Hershel (Logan Kim). But things don't always go as planned in an apocalypse, and the teaser trailers for the upcoming season show Maggie returning to Manhattan.
The Walking Dead: Dead City will return to AMC and AMC+ beginning May 4. The eight-part season will feature Maggie's return to Manhattan and Negan's return to his Savior roots complete with a new Lucille and that famous Savior whistle.
The recent teaser (below) highlights Maggie and her journey in the upcoming season. She states, "After everything that happened, I know what it means to go back to Manhattan."

Maggie was last seen in her new community The Bricks, an old brick factory located near New York. There, she tried to make amends with her son Hershel, who experienced quite the trauma. He was abducted by a former Savior, The Croat (Željko Ivanek), who also returns in season 2, which required Maggie to enlist the help of Negan, her long-time enemy in the rescue. Little did Negan know, but Maggie made a deal with the Croat, Negan, for her son.
Hershel lashes out at Maggie regarding her overwhelming obsession with revenge on Negan for killing her husband, Hershel's father, Glenn Rhee (Steven Yeun). He tells her she is so obsessed with Negan that she never sees him.
During a panel at the 2025 IGN Fan Fest, Cohan set up Maggie's mindset coming into this season. She is taking care of two teens, her son, and Ginny (Mahina Napoleon), and things are as rosy as Maggie would like them to be.

It will be interesting to see Maggie's plans for Negan this season. In the NYCC teaser for the series, Maggie asks someone, "Why do you want to go back after everything that happened? Why all of a sudden do you want to bring back Manhattan?" It is unclear who she is speaking to but she is in for quite a shock when she realizes Negan's new role with the criminal elements of Manhattan.
Don't miss season 2 of The Walking Dead: Dead City on AMC and AMC+ beginning May 4. If you didn't see season 1, it is now streaming on Netflix, with a long list of other AMC originals.
