Award-winning actor Steven Yeun is well known for his roles in The Walking Dead, Invincible, Beef, and more. Variety reports that Yeun has secured his next role in Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies’ untitled animated Aang “Avatar” film.
The film is directed by Lauren Montgomery, known for storyboarding the DC Comics animated series and movies. She is joined by William Mata as co-director of the film, the details of which characters have yet to be released. The movie is based on the Avatar: The Last Airbender series created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko.
The "Avatar" film is scheduled for release on Jan. 20, 2026, and in addition to Yeun also stars Dave Bautista, Eric Nam, Dionne Quan, Jessica Matten, and Román Zaragoza. Yeun's role in the story, which follows Aang and the others during their adult years, has yet to be disclosed.
Yeun previously voiced Wan, the first Avatar, in The Legend of Korra, which is also part of the Airbender Universe. He is no stranger to voice acting roles, having voiced characters in Invincible, Trollhunters: Rise of The Titans, and Tuca & Bertie.

Yeun recently wrapped filming on RIP, a crime thriller from Joe Carnhan, known for The Blacklist. The movie focuses on A group of Miami cops who discover a stash of millions in cash, leading to distrust as outsiders learn about the massive seizure, making them question whom to rely on. Additional cast includes Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Teyana Taylor, Sasha Calle, Nestor Carbonell, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Kyle Chandler, Scott Adkins, and Lina Esco. The film is scheduled to release on Netflix in Fall 2025.
The actor is currently filming Ben Affleck's Animals, another Netflix project which stars Affleck, Gillian Anderson, Kerry Washington, Luis Gerardo Méndez, Adriana Paz, Ray Fisher, Mark Kassen, and Christopher Woodley. The story follows a mayoral candidate and his wife, who take extreme measures to pay their son's ransom, resulting in dark secrets they've long kept hidden coming to light.
Other recent projects for Yeun include season three of Prime Video's Invincible, Mickey 17, Bubble & Squeak, and Love Me.
