On April 3, 2025, genre-defining director, screenwriter, and composer John Carpenter was honored with the 2806th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in front of the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. Joining him on the red carpet were Kurt Russell, Keith David, and Walking Dead director and SFX guru Greg Nicotero.
Carpenter began his long-running career with the low-budget horror film Halloween in 1978. The film surpassed all expectations and spawned a franchise that still continues today. Carpenter's score for the film added terror, which enhanced the viewer's experience and inspired a long list of composers.
Throughout his career Carpenter has continued to entertain audiences with his horror creations, including The Thing (1982), The Fog (1980), Christine (1983), and In the Mouth of Madness (1994) cementing him as a master of horror. He is also well known for numerous other movies, the Oscar®-nominated Starman (1984), action films Escape from New York (1981), and Escape from L.A. (1996), the horror-action hybrid, Vampires (1998), and the sci-fi thriller Village of the Damned (1995), to only name a few of his iconic movies.
Walking Dead director and SFX master Greg Nicotero attended the ceremony and gave a speech honoring a man he has looked up to since he was a very young man. In the caption of his social media post below, Nicotero shared that he enjoyed reuniting and connecting with old friends, and the experience left him on cloud nine for the remainder of the day.
