Emmy Award-winning actor Jon Bernthal is in for a tremendous year in 2025. He will appear in several new releases this year, including the thriller The Amateur.
The movie from 20th Century Studios is a new espionage-thriller directed by James Hawes based on Robert Littell's 1981 novel. Soon after the book's debut, Charles Jarrott (Anne of the Thousand Days) directed a movie adaptation starring John Savage, Christopher Plummer, and Marthe Keller. The new movie's screenplay is by Ken Nolan and Gary Spinelli, and the film is produced by Hutch Parker, Dan Wilson, Malek, and Joel B. Michaels, with JJ Hook serving as executive producer.
Oscar winner Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody) and Academy Award nominee Laurence Fishburne (What’s Love Got to Do with It) lead the cast, which also includes Bernthal, Rachel Brosnahan, Caitríona Balfe, Michael Stuhlbarg, Holt McCallany, Julianne Nicholson, Adrian Martinez, Danny Sapani,
The story follows CIA cryptographer Charlie Heller (Malek) who embarks on a one man mission to hunt down the killers of his wife who died in a terrorist attack. Due to the refusal of his supervisors to take action, Heller feels his only course of action to handle things himself.
Official synopsis, provided by 20th Century Studios: Charlie Heller (Malek) is a brilliant, but deeply introverted decoder for the CIA working out of a basement office at headquarters in Langley whose life is turned upside down when his wife is killed in a London terrorist attack. When his supervisors refuse to take action, he takes matters into his own hands, embarking on a dangerous trek across the globe to track down those responsible, his intelligence serving as the ultimate weapon for eluding his pursuers and achieving his revenge.

Jon Bernthal - upcoming roles
Bernthal had made a name for himself with numerous outstanding roles including Shane Walsh in The Walking Dead. In 2025, he will reprise his role as Frank Castle/Punisher in the Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again, which premieres on March 4.
Another reprisal will come in the second The Accountant movie when he will once again star as Brax Wolff, brother to Christian Wolff played by Ben Affleck. The sequel will premiere in theaters on April 25. He will star alongside Tessa Thompson in a Netflix original His & Hers that adapts the 2020 novel by Alice Feeney.
