With The Last of Us season 3 on the way and plenty of zombie theories going around, one thing is for sure — Laura Bailey, who voiced Abby in The Last of Us Part 2, is going to have a big role in it, and now, thanks to Nerdist, we have a theory on who.
Previously, it was reported that Bailey would take on a leadership role in the Seraphites, a group of cultists in the games that Abby ran into several times while trying to get the heck out of dodge (i.e., Seattle). However, thanks to some sleuthing from Nerdist, Elizabeth turns out not to be an original character.
Believe it or not, Elizabeth actually appears in the zombie game.

Who is Elizabeth?
Elizabeth is someone you neither see nor hear in the game. That’s honestly the case for a lot of characters in these games, since they tend to pop up and vanish out of nowhere. The focus is on Ellie and Abby, of course, so there’s really no need to get into the complexities of these religious zealots. The main thing in the game is that they’re bad people and you shoot at them. Badda-bing, badda-boom.
However, The Last of Us TV show gives fans plenty of opportunities to dive deeper into characters that we wouldn’t have seen before. We saw that with some original characters, as well as game characters whose backstories were revealed more (i.e., Bill). It looks like the same will be true for Elizabeth.
In the game, Elizabeth leads the Seraphites but isn’t seen visually. Instead, we hear a few people talk about her. We learn Elizabeth is a mother who recently lost her son; in the game, Lev (the child she travels with) and Abby overhear the conversation. Their son was—surprise, surprise—killed by one of the WLF members, further pushing that divide between the two groups.
Elizabeth was offered a child by the Seraphite Elders—where they got that baby, I have no idea, but here we are—yet she refused.
If this is the case, then Elizabeth is the one that Bailey will play in the zombie show, and if it is the same one from the games, then this will be amazing. This isn’t the first time the show has made side characters, or ones we never saw at all, a big deal. They did the same thing with Frank, Bill’s partner, who was only mentioned in passing and then shown in… not the best way in the game.
So if Laura Bailey ended up playing someone like Elizabeth, who already has a name and a major role, it makes sense she'd be the one featured in the game. Other video game characters have been added time and time again, so she just might be the latest.

How she might interact with TV Abby
As mentioned before, Bailey voiced Abby in the games, but the actress won't play the TV version and will instead step into a new role. Kaitlyn Dever portrays the TV version, and season 3 will focus much more on Abby’s side of the story.
That being said, that doesn’t mean that these two won’t interact. Honestly, I’d be pretty surprised if they didn't, since Abby’s story tends to revolve around the Seraphites and what they do to both her people (the WLF) and to Levi and Yara. It would be pretty poetic if they had a huge confrontation, especially since Elizabeth is a Seraphite leader.
We have also seen the voice actors appear in the show before. While Bella Ramsay (Ellie) and Ellie's voice actress, Ashley Johnson, didn’t share scenes, Johnson had a great moment portraying Ellie’s mother in a flashback on the series. But watching Bailey and Dever would honestly be a step up from that. And if Elizabeth is truly who we believe her to be, this will be epic, alongside plenty of other great castings.
You can watch the first two seasons of The Last of Us on HBO Max.
