Walking Dead Season 5: Early Death Predictions – Part 1

With season 5 of AMC’s The Walking Dead approaching rapidly, I’ve decided to try my hand at predicting the deaths of the characters.  I know I’ll struggle because of how unpredictable The Walking Dead is when it comes to characters living or dying.  However, I’ll give it my best shot.

Here is my obscenely early guesses as to who will make it out of season 5 alive and who will end up a meal for a walker:

Rick Grimes

• Although killing off Rick would give a great storyline for Carl becoming more of a leader and evolving into the character we want him to be, it doesn’t seem likely.  Considering the season ended with a HUGE focus on Rick’s transformation into a more primal character, I just don’t see it happening.  Odds of death: 10%

Carl on The Walking Dead

Carl Grimes

• Killing of young Mr. Grimes would make a lot of fans of The Walking Dead happy, but don’t expect it to happen for season 5. He’s the glue that’s holding Rick and Michonne together as they are fighting forward.  There is just too much story left to tell when it comes to Carl for him to be taken out of the show.  Odds of death: 2%

Judith Grimes

• Of all the members of the Grimes family that could be killed off this season, Judith is the most likely.  Not only is she already dead in the comic book world, but her inclusion makes it difficult for the group because of how unpredictable a young child is.  While Judith my symbolize hope and part of the future of the Grimes clan, her death could be a major motivating factor in the development of both Rick and Carl.  Odds of death: 30%

Michonne

• I know it’s odd to include Michonne with the Grimes family, but at this point she feels like she belongs here.  Her ability to kick ass as a strong African-American female character is something that this show desperately needs to keep.  Her interactions with Carl and Rick are enough to keep her around for at least a couple more seasons, but after seeing how The Walking Dead handles their show it is hard not to expect the worst.  Still, I expect Michonne to survive the season.  Odds of death: 3%
