We have to wait just over two months until the show returns with the midseason premiere in February but that will give us all time to get over the death of Beth and try to determine what it means moving forward.
In an interview with TVLine, Emily Kinney noted that she was shocked when she learned that Beth was going to die on The Walking Dead, and thought that there was more that could have been explored with her character.
"I did not see it coming at all, especially this season. It’s weird, because I would’ve been OK with [this happening] in the second season or the third season… But now I feel differently… I feel like there was still so much more to [explore.]”"
Emily Kinney was in the know about her death on the show and it still shocked her — that says all you need to know about the impact of the death. It’s not that the death itself was high in shock value, it’s the long term effects the death will have on characters Beth was close to. That’s the true tragedy of Beth’s death as what she could have accomplished on the show is endless but will never be known.
