The Walking Dead will be spinning off into a companion series called ‘Cobalt’ and Gone Girl standout Kim Dickens is going to be playing a lead role.

Gone Girl was one of the hottest movies of the year, thanks to the always sharp direction of David Fincher and the excellent cast that filled the film. One of those cast members is heading to the world of The Walking Dead, as Kim Dickens has reportedly been cast in the lead female role for the new series.

Deadline is reporting that Kim Dickens has been cast as the lead female role in the companion spinoff series for The Walking Dead, codenamed ‘Cobalt’ at the moment.

"Gone Girl standout Kim Dickens has been tapped as the female lead opposite Cliff Curtis in the pilot for The Walking Dead companion series at AMC. The project was created by Robert Kirkman, on whose graphic novel The Walking Deadwas based, and Dave Erickson, with Adam Davidson set to direct. Dickens landed the female lead after a lengthy casting process, with AMC testing a number of actresses for the role."

Dickens played Detective Rhonda Boney in Gone Girl, a character who worked with, and then against and finally with Ben Affleck’s character in the case of his missing wife. The role was perfect for Dickens, as she sunk her teeth into her first film role since 2012. She’s no strangers to the world of television either, having secured roles on ‘Treme’, ‘Sons of Anarchy’ and ‘Deadwood’ in the past, and her skills as an actress — coupled with Cliff Curtis as the male lead — make Cobalt even more intriguing than it already was.
