The Walking Dead: Melissa McBride’s Carol takes home the EWwy award for best supporting actress
By Susie Graham
Turning the Ms upside down on the Emmys, Entertainment Weekly gives out the EWwys to those it feels were snubbed by Emmy. They are voted on for a 3 week period by fans online.
Our Carol, Melissa McBride, received her EWwy just tonight for best supporting actress in a drama, winning by almost 9,000 votes. Here are the final results:
Melissa McBride, The Walking Dead — 33.09%
Maisie Williams, Game of Thrones — 23.74%
Sophie Turner, Game of Thrones —17.17%
Lorraine Toussaint, Orange Is the New Black — 14.24%
Sissy Spacek, Bloodline — 9.08%
Carrie Coon, The Leftovers — 2.68%
McBride’s portrayal of Carol Peletier has been honored by the Saturn awards and has been talked about by Chris Hardwick and other cast members as being Emmy worthy. Fans were quite upset when the cast was snubbed by the Emmys yet again, although proud of the crew recognition.
Melissa seemed genuinely happy and very inclusive in her tweet tonight!
Entertainment Weekly has been quite good to The Walking Dead recently, featuring Melissa McBride, Norman Reedus and Andrew Lincoln on the cover as well as covering quite a bit of season 6 news in their issue and online.
Congratulations, Melissa!
Maybe we won’t tie anyone to a tree to be eaten by walkers, yet. And perhaps season 6 will open the eyes of Emmy. But we hope the EWwy, the Saturn and the love of your fans and your peers is enough for now.
