Recently, I wrote an article about a casting call for The Walking Dead’s sixth season that is trying to find a certain kind of actor for a recurring role on the hit AMC zombie survival drama.  The speculation surrounding the posting is that it is for an upcoming character named Jesus from the hit comic book series.

If it is for Jesus, fans of The Walking dead are in for a real treat during season 6.

Jesus’ real name in the comics is Paul Monroe and he lives at the Hilltop Colony.  He’s called Jesus because of his likeness to the religious figure of the same name.  I like to think of him as the ultimate survivalist.  He excels in melee combat, but is also more than proficient when it comes to handling other weapons.  Not only can he kick butt, but he is a slippery guy who can escape many situations with quick thinking and can also be a huge asset when working on attack strategies.

He’s very capable of surviving on his own, yet is a huge asset to any group that can persuade him to join them.  However, sometimes his ego gets in the way of being a great team player and he tends to clash at times with the people in the authority.

Jesus is a man who is a tough man, but he’s got a soft spot.  He’ll lie, cheat and steal to get what he needs, but he won’t take so much that it will severely hurt other survivors.

He can live well on his own, but he has his own kind of stubborn kindness that can endear him to fans.  Personally, I believe that he will either be a character that people love or hate.  If done well, he could be seen as a savior and a hero, otherwise, he could be portrayed as an egotist and renegade.

Either way, it appears as though Jesus will be joining us for The Walking Dead’s sixth season.  His appearance will signal that a lot of crazy things will be happening soon, so fans of the comics will be happy to see him make his debut.  But I’m still torn on whether or not the hit AMC show can do the character justice.
