Walker Stalker Con 2015 rolls on to Philadelphia
Philadelphia is going to be a very interesting place this weekend! It’s going to be packed with fans of The Walking Dead for Walker Stalker Con Philadelphia, which runs September 26-27, while also hosting Pope Francis, who will be visiting Philadelphia on the same days for the World Meeting of Families.
Will the Pope be attending Walker Stalker Con? That is unclear, though his schedule, which is posted online, appears to be rather booked and does not mention any stops at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center at Oaks. Then again, Norman Reedus did have to cancel his plans to attend Walker Stalker Philadelphia, so maybe that had some influence on the Pope’s decision. It’s impossible to know for sure.
While the Pope may not be attending Walker Stalker this time around, many of our favorite celebrities will be there. Notably, Philadelphia will be the first con appearance by Lincoln A. Castellanos (better known as “Tobias” on Fear the Walking Dead). Castellanos is also confirmed to appear at Walker Stalker Con Atlanta, the original and biggest of the Walker Stalker events, next month.
As usual, many of our favorite Walking Dead stars will be ready to meet and greet fans, sign autographs and take pictures. Who’ll be there? Lennie James (“Morgan“), Chad L. Coleman (“Tyreese“), and Jon Bernthal (“Shane”), just to name a few. There will also be a wide assortment of vendors, selling just about anything you can think of related to The Walker Dead. As I discovered in Boston, Walker Stalker is pretty much a Walking Dead fan’s version of heaven.
A few of my own favorite guests from Walker Stalker Boston – Josh McDermitt (“Eugene”), Lawrence Gilliard, Jr. (“Bob”) and Melissa Ponzio, (“Karen”) – will also be among those in attendance in Philadelphia. For a complete list of guests at Walker Stalker Philadelphia, click here.
Besides Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun also had to cancel his appearance at Walker Stalker Philadelphia, and as of Tuesday this week, Michael Cudlitz tweeted “Might only be in Philly for Sat.” While it can be disappointing to fans, their schedules sometimes have to change around filming for the show, and filming obviously comes first.
As at many other Walker Stalker cons, there will be several extra events going on in Philadelphia. Emily Kinney (“Beth”) will be playing in concert on Saturday night at 7:30, and the Apocalypse Zombie Experience will once again be set up on the convention floor during regular con hours. Separate tickets are required for both events.
Finally, there will also be a new feature for Walker Stalker Con, the Sanctuary Short Film Fest. Entries can be submitted for a $30 fee. The prize for winning the contest is 2 VIP passes to Walker Stalker Atlanta… not too bad at all!
Tickets are still available at both General Admission and VIP levels for Walker Stalker Philadelphia, including celebrity VIP packages for Chandler Riggs, Emily Kinney and Jon Bernthal. Professional photo ops can also be paid for online in advance. For ticket and photo op information, click here.
Having now attended a Walker Stalker event with a “regular” VIP pass, I will say that it was completely worth it to me not to have to wait in what appeared to be endless lines both for admission each morning, as well as for all autographs and/or pictures. Still, no matter what kind of ticket you may have, I’m sure it will be a great experience!
