The Walking Dead memes power up with Pokémon Go
By Susie Graham
With the onset of the biggest craze since Flappy Bird, the memes for The Walking Dead have leveled up to add Pokémon Go mash-ups.
Memes and memers have always been a favorite topic for me. They are so clever. For The Walking Dead fans, they are a great way to add humor to a show that is not very light in its themes and subject matter.
The show covers heavy topics, but the cast and the fandom have an easy-going and humorous way about them. Talking Dead adds humor and the memes extend that aspect of the show.
The memes help us through the withdrawal period between seasons. Season 6 was particularly clever with memes, especially 6B, with Jesus and poor Denise and Carl eye puns.

Just when we thought we couldn’t squeeze anything more from Negan and Lucille, along come Pikachu, Charmander, and Squirtle! Let’s look at how the Pokémon craze has infiltrated the zombie apocalypse!
No, Negan, nobody wants to play with you!
Apparently, there is a Pokémon named Raikou.
A little nostalgia never hurt anyone, right?
Or a little Jesus and Daryl rivalry!
Daryl Dixon fans always find a way to fangirl.
At least someone found a way to make Rick’s terrified face not look so horror-stricken.
And, of course, there are those who don’t get into the latest crazes.
This one is up my alley because it has two levels of funny. It could be that the zombie was playing Pokémon Go and got killed, even though he wasn’t going to eat his killer, he was just looking for Pokémon. Poor walker.
Or…he was alive and playing Pokémon Go and not paying attention, so he got bitten by a walker, subsequently turned and sub-subsequently got killed.
I love jokes with layers.
Some of us, like me and Abe, are just a little bit to old to know who all these Pokémon are.
And for those of you who hate the Pokémon craze, this is my meme for you.
Everybody has weird things they enjoy. I don’t know anything about Pokémon, but people are out having fun and what’s stupid to one person isn’t stupid to another. My family thinks my obsession with zombies and The Walking Dead is stupid.
Stay safe Pokémon Go searchers!
