Hilarie Burton Morgan keeps things real on Mischief Farms
By Renee Hansen
Hilarie Burton Morgan and her family are a massive part of The Walking Dead family. Her husband, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, plays Negan in the series; she portrayed his wife Lucille in the episode “Here’s Negan,” and their son Gus played a walker in season 11. Their family also lived in Alexandria while filming during the height of the pandemic.
The Morgan’s live in upstate New York, where they reside at Mischief Farm. They have a menagerie of animals, including the unlikely couple Jack and Diane, a donkey and emu couple that the Morgan’s rescued in 2018. Other animals on the farm include alpacas, ducks, chickens, highland cows, more donkeys and dogs. You can check the stories behind some of the animals and a great gallery of photos on the website.
Burton Morgan shared a post on Instagram highlighting her glamourous life on set, in the makeup chair and being featured in The New York Times, then back to reality as she slips on the ice into a pile of donkey poop in the 12* weather.
Gotta love a woman who keeps things real. And that is why fans adore her. She shows off the donkey crew, a beautiful emu egg with Diane looking proud of her accomplishment, and their rescue dog Irwin who is a champ!
Along with her One Tree Hill co-stars Sophia Bush and Bethany Joy Lenz, Burton Morgan hosts a podcast called Drama Queens and discusses their time on the show. They host rewatches of the episodes as they discuss BTS tidbits and bring in some of the actors involved in the series. Be sure to read The New York Times article in its entirety as it is a deep look into the traumatic experiences they all endured while working on the show.
Be sure to check out her SundanceTV series True Crime Story: It Couldn’t Happen Here. The series focuses on significant crimes that impact small towns and haven’t received the media coverage or attention they deserve due to the size of the towns. This is a cause Burton Morgan is extremely passionate about.
It is so refreshing to see a celebrity keep things real and relatable.
