Fear the Walking Dead: Strand’s paranoia is bad news for this character
By Renee Hansen
Fear the Walking Dead’s latest episode, “Sonny Boy,” was an episode that saw two lives lost. This is the first episode to feature Victor Strand in the back half of season 7, and his paranoia is overtaking his reason.
This week continued with a character-focused episode; this time, the focus was on John Dorie Sr. He told June in “Mourning Cloak” that he feels the only way things at the Tower can change is for him to “get in Strand’s ear.”
This article contains spoilers for Fear the Walking Dead’s latest episode, “Sonny Boy.”
Dorie Sr. set Howard up to be part of a resistance to Strand, which caused Strand to question his closest ally’s faithfulness to their cause. Baby Mo came up missing from her crib, adding fuel to the possibility of resistance.
Since Morgan tried to poison Strand, he has become more and more paranoid, which is understandable, but it has affected his decision-making. Things at the Tower have become strained as many more people are being tossed off the roof for things Strand thinks they are doing, whether true or not.
Fear the Walking Dead – Howard (Omid Abtahi)
This week Howard, despite all of his efforts to prove himself, was thrown off the roof by Dorie Sr. This is what Strand demanded of Dorie Sr. to prove himself. This was quite a shock as Howard has always been a faithful servant to Strand, no matter what he asked. We’ve even seen Howard become very Strand-like during Strand’s absence in “Mourning Cloak.”
Sadly, Dorie Sr. was also killed in this week’s episode, but this was after he had a change of heart and turned away from Strand, aiding June and Grace in removing baby Mo back into Morgan’s care.
Strand’s spiraling out of control can only benefit Alicia, Morgan and the others who are trying to take over the Tower.
Towards the end of the episode, we saw Wes step up beside Strand, asking if the position of his right-hand man was open. But this makes no sense. Wes left Luciana because of one lie to Daniel. Now he is ok with Strand and all of his throwing people off roofs and threatening June and Grace? Is he playing a double agent game, or what is really going on with him?
AMC will air the next episode of Fear the Walking Dead, “The Raft,” on May 15 at 9 p.m. ET. This episode is currently available on AMC+.
