The Walking Dead series is currently on hiatus during its final season. The midseason finale for season 11 aired in April, and fans are patiently waiting until the fall for the final eight episodes of the series. While we wait, it’s been fun to look back at the previous seasons and speculate about what is to come. Director of Photography for TWD, Duane Charles Manwiller, has been helping during this time by posting amazing behind-the-scenes photos of the series.

His most recent photo is a fantastic shot of director and SFX guru Greg Nicotero receiving final preparations transforming him into a walker for the last time in this series by another SFX mast Gino Crognale. Manwiller’s caption includes “Final episode tease,” marking his location as “undisclosed” to keep things secret.

Nicotero has played a walker several times throughout the series, numerous times. He was Daryl Dixon’s (Norman Reedus) first on-screen walker kill in “Tell it to the Frogs” and the walker that killed Amy (Emma Bell) in “Vatos.” Early in season 11, Maggie (Lauren Cohan) killed his walker self two times.

The Walking Dead – season 11, part 3

Fans have high expectations for the final eight episodes of The Walking Dead. Many loose ends need wrapping, and spinoffs and movies that this will lead to. But it will be difficult to please fans who aren’t ready to see the series end.

The fandom is far from over with the numerous spinoffs and possible movies yet to come, but nothing will ever compare to the original series. The Walking Dead set the standard, and imitation is the greatest form of flattery, but it never lives up to the source material.
