Does AMC air a new episode of The Walking Dead tonight? (June 5, 2022)
By Renee Hansen
Sadly, the answer is no. The Walking Dead series concluded part 2 of season 11 on April 10 with “Acts of God,” and part 3 isn’t expected until the fall of this year. The final episode of the series wrapped filming in March 2022 after12 long years. It is sad to think of the series ending, but the fandom will live on with several spinoffs, and someday, fans will see the promised Walking Dead movies.
The third and final installment of season 11 of The Walking Dead will conclude the story in eight episodes. The most recent episode, “Acts of God,” ended with Lance Hornsby (Josh Hamilton) and the Commonwealth taking over the communities of Hilltop, Alexandria and Oceanside. It is unclear if he has done this with or without the knowledge of Governor Pamela Milton (Laila Robins). Milton is a very classist individual and puts much stock in class rankings as she has always been a part of an influential political family. It has yet to be proven if she is involved in the underhanded schemes of the Commonwealth or not.
This episode also saw Maggie (Lauren Cohan), Gabriel (Seth Gilliam), Aaron (Ross Marquand) and Daryl (Norman Reedus) finding themselves exiled from the Commonwealth after coming against this community and partnering with Negan’s (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) new community of Riverside and its residents. While back at the Commonwealth, Connie (Lauren Ridloff) and the others have dug up some dirt on the Milton’s and published a nonsanctioned newspaper notifying the residents of what is being hidden from them.
The Walking Dead spinoff series
Fear the Walking Dead airs tonight on AMC with its season 7 finale “Gone.” This episode will see the return of fan-favorite Madison Clark (Kim Dickens), who will return in season 8 as a series regular. This news is supposed to be a balm for fans of this series as the previous episode was announced as the last for Alycia Debnam-Carey. She had played Alicia in the series since the pilot episode. Season 8 of Fear the Walking Dead will begin filming sometime this month in Savannah, Georgia.
Tales of the Walking Dead is a spinoff series that will feature stand-alone stories in each episode. Showrunner Channing Powell posted on social media that the series is ready to be released. No official release date has been announced other than it will happen this summer. It is an exciting premise for a series that will feature stories about new or previously established characters within The Walking Dead world. Samantha Morton will be reprising her role as the Whisperer’s leader, Alpha, in the sixth and final episode of season 1.
Isle of the Dead is a spinoff that will feature Maggie and Negan as they travel the island of Manhattan. Only one additional actor has been announced for the series, and that is Gaius Charles, who will portray a man named Izaak. This series will film in Manhattan and New Jersey beginning this summer. Morgan, who plays Negan, got fans very excited this week in his Twitter post about this series, stating:
"I’m beyond excted. Thrilled to continue this TWD journey as Negan. I can’t tell you how excited I am to be working Lauren Cohan. We’ve read the season, it’s gonna blow your minds. I reapeat, BLOW YOUR F’n MINDS."
Daryl Dixon’s spinoff is another series that will be coming soon. This was initially the series featuring Carol (Melissa McBride) and Daryl. McBride bowed out, needing a much-deserved break after filming TWD for 12 years, and filming for this series will take place in Europe, and this wasn’t a good fit for her. Reedus has teased that you never know who he will run into on his European adventure and that Daryl and Carol haven’t seen the last of each other.
And then, The Walking Dead movies or more commonly known as the Rick Grimes movies. When first announced, this was to be a trilogy of movies that would see Andrew Lincoln step back into his boots and portray Rick once again. Last summer, there was much chatter about things moving forward with the movies as far as writing, which is the last we have heard. Fans doubt they will ever see the films, but I am still holding on to a thread of hope!
