Why didn’t Isle of the Dead go to SDCC? (2022)
By Renee Hansen
Comic Con 2022 was full of excitement for The Walking Dead universe. Tales of The Walking Dead hosted its first panel and released a full-length trailer. The Walking Dead held its emotion-filled final panel and the trailer for the last eight episodes of the series. In a surprise move, AMC announced a Rick and Michonne spinoff series that will see Andrew Lincoln and Danai Guira reprise their roles. Notably absent from the event was another spinoff, Isle of the Dead.
This series will feature Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan) in the unlikely pairing of these characters as they head to Manhattan on a new mission. The purpose of their mission is kept under wraps, but perhaps it will be revealed sometimes in the last eight episodes of the main series.
But why was Isle of the Dead missing from AMC’s panel lineup at Comic Con? The answer is simple; the series has begun filming in New Jersey.
Isle of the Dead – filming
Weeks ago, Morgan began teasing fans about the series. He Tweeted that he and Cohan had read the script, and it would “blow fans f’ing minds.” When the panel guests for Comic Con were announced, and Morgan and Cohan weren’t on the list, fans were extremely disappointed until they realized the pair would be filming the new series during that time. Filming for the series will take place in New Jersey and in New York, which is close to Morgan’s home in upstate New York, which has to be a nice change for him.
Isle of the Dead is scheduled to release in 2023, as is the Daryl spinoff and Richonne spinoff. Plus, Fear the Walking Dead is filming its eighth season, and Tales of the Walking Dead will premiere on August 14, 2022. We have A LOT of good things coming in TWDU.
