Is Jeffrey Dean Morgan still on The Walking Dead?
By Renee Hansen
There have been many villains in The Walking Dead series throughout its 12-year run, but viewers agree that Negan, portrayed by Jeffrey Dean Morgan, was one of the worst. He would experience redemption in the eleventh and final season, but many fans will never forgive him for his past.
Negan was introduced to the storyline in the season finale of season 6, “Last Day on Earth,” and by the premiere of season 7, “The Day Will Come When You Won’t Be,” had become the most hated character of the series. Fans of the series longed for and dreaded Negan’s lineup scene that they knew was to come when Morgan was announced for the role.
When Abraham (Michael Cudlitz) was selected as Lucille’s victim, fans were shocked, but Abraham went out on his terms, getting the last dig in at Negan, saying, “Suck my nuts.” As fans breathed a sigh of relief, Negan would then choose another victim because of Daryl’s (Norman Reedus) actions. The second would be Glenn (Steven Yeun), a fan favorite of many, and his death was heartbreaking as he looked to his wife Maggie (Lauren Cohan) with his head bashed in and said, “Maggie, I’ll find you.”
To this day, Morgan gets a lot of hate for this role, especially for killing Glenn and the fact that Negan coerced women to be his wives, of which he had many.
How long has Jeffrey Dean Morgan been on The Walking Dead?
As stated above, Negan began his journey during season 6 of The Walking Dead. His character drastically changed from an evil villain to a helpful ally during that time. Negan’s character not only survived until the last episode of The Walking Dead, which aired in November 2022 but will go on to have more of his story told. Morgan will star with Cohan in a Negan and Maggie-centric series, The Walking Dead: Dead City.
This series will premiere on AMC in June 2023 with a two-year time jump from the ending of the flagship series and see these characters travel to Manhattan searching for Maggie’s missing son, Hershel. The island of Manhattan contains the most significant horde of the undead in the country, as the location was cut off from the mainland early after the outbreak. The city now resembles a wasteland of New York City seen in movies like Escape from New York and The Warriors.
What else does Jeffrey Dean Morgan star in?
Besides Negan, Morgan’s best-known roles are that of John Winchester in Supernatural and Denny Duquette in Grey’s Anatomy. He is also known for Magic City, Shameless, Extant, Solace, and Leopard Skin.
Morgan previously starred with Cohan in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice as Thomas & Martha Wayne, Bruce’s parents.
Another exciting new role will see Morgan star in Prime Video’s The Boys.
Some of this writer’s favorites include Peace, Love & Misunderstanding, The Unholy, and Fall.
