Fans of a franchise love to see a good crossover. By 2024, The Walking Dead universe will consist of the main series and six spinoffs, with more in the making, according to Chief Content Officer Scott M. Gimple. Fans of TWDU are happy to see crossovers where they make sense and with characters who are essential to the overall story. Which Walking Dead series crossover?

The first character to crossover was Morgan Jones. Portrayed by Lennie James since the pilot episode of the flagship series, Morgan has been a staple in the story. His character never made a consistent appearance until season 6, and by that time, he had discovered “The Art of Peace” and refused to kill “even the most evil person.” A mantra that can prove quite dangerous in an apocalypse. This is something he will struggle with for the rest of his days.

In season 4 of Fear the Walking Dead, Morgan crosses into that series’ story. After the war with the Saviors in TWD, Morgan decides he needs to be alone, fearing he would lose his mind if he became close to someone and lost them. As Fear the Walking Dead enters its eighth and final season, Morgan has found love with Grace (Karen David) and their adopted child Mo. It will be interesting to see where his story ends.

The Walking Dead crossover characters

Dwight and Sherry, played by Austin Amelio and Christine Evangelista, are a married couple who would cross from TWD to Fear TWD in seasons 5 and 6, respectively. Sherry, one of Negan’s (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) former wives, lived this life in order to save her husband from death. Dwight became a Savior in order to keep an eye on his wife and ensure her safety.

After the war between the Saviors and Rick’s (Andrew Lincoln) group, Daryl (Norman Reedus) was ready to kill Dwight for all of the things he had done, but as a favor to Sherry, who once helped Daryl, he allowed Dwight to leave with the promise he would never return. The couple would be reunited on Fear TWD and begin a new life. Their story will continue during the series’ last season, starting in May 2023.

The Walking Dead: World Beyond was the second spinoff series with two seasons. In the second season, a familiar face would appear who went by the name and rank of Warrant Officer Jadis Stokes (Pollyanna McIntosh). Known as Jadis/Anne in TWD, she would reappear in the story as a member of the CRM (Civic Republic Military) and confirm that she used Rick as her ticket to gain entry into the organization.

Rumors have circulated on social media that McIntosh has been spotted on the set of the new Rick & Michonne (Danai Gurira) series, Summit, scheduled for release in 2024. This would make perfect sense as McIntosh was long tied to the series of movies that initially would have seen the return of Rick to the franchise. These movies have been scrapped to make way for the series. Summit began filming in New Jersey in February 2023 and will heavily focus on the CRM. This would make McIntosh the first double crossover in the TWDU.

The Walking Dead spinoff additional crossovers

In 2023 two new spinoffs, The Walking Dead: Dead City and The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, will be released. Dead City will star Lauren Cohan as Maggie and Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Negan, with Norman Reedus reprising his role in Daryl Dixon. All three actors have teased possible crossover characters. It will be interesting to see if any characters from the other series will show up in these storylines.

With Fear TWD experiencing a seven-year time jump in its last season, this will bring that story almost in line with the flagship’s story. This would allow Fear TWD characters to crossover as well.  It will be interesting to see who shows up in the new spinoffs.
