Fans of The Walking Dead are counting down the day until new TWDU content is released. Fear the Walking Dead will premiere its eighth and final season on AMC on May 14, 2023, and AMC+ on May 11. This will be followed by the premiere of the newest direct spinoff of the flagship series, The Walking Dead: Dead City.
Dead City is the latest spinoff series in The Walking Dead universe that will continue the stories of Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) as they head to Manhattan. Viewers knew the only thing that could force Maggie to partner with Negan was a tragedy involving her son Hershel. It has been revealed that Hershel will be abducted, and somehow Negan is the key to securing his release.
Dead City takes place a few years after the one-year time jump that occurred in the last episode of The Walking Dead, which has required the role of Hershel, played by Michael Kien Spiller in seasons 10 & 11 of The Walking Dead, to be recast by an older actor. The panel at WonderCon 2023 revealed that Ghostbusters Afterlife actor Logan Kim will fill this role in the series.
Hershel will be abducted by a man named The Croat (Željko Ivanek), who Maggie tracks to Manhattan. There has been much chatter about The Croat being a former member of the Saviors, which would make for a very interesting storyline. And if there is bad blood between Negan and The Croat, would explain why Negan is the key to Hershel’s release. Rumors that Steven Ogg, who played the Savior named Simon, had been seen on the set of Dead City have fueled the rumors that viewers could see some Sanctuary flashbacks.
What else does Logan Kim star in?
Kim portrayed a character named Podcast in Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which was a sequel film to Ghostbusters (1984) and Ghostbusters II (1989).
Another role he played was the Grandson in Home Move: The Princess Bride, a fan-made recreation of the 1987 movie The Princess Bride. This miniseries was created while the actors were isolated during the covid pandemic and is made in a DIY style of filming.
Dead City will premiere on AMC+ on May 11 and AMC on June 18, 2023, at 10 p.m. ET immediately following Fear the Walking Dead’s season 8 midseason finale episode.
