Fans of The Walking Dead have been experiencing withdrawal since the series finale episode in November 2022. The promise of several spinoff series has lessened the blow of the conclusion of the long-running series, and the first release of a new spinoff is scheduled for June 2023. In the meantime, there is always a rewatch of the flagship, the three spinoffs already released, or the long list of webisodes set within TWDU.

AMC has ordered four more spinoffs in addition to Fear the Walking Dead, The Walking Dead World Beyond, and Tales of the Walking Dead. The first spinoff, Fear TWD, will premiere its eighth and final season on AMC on May 14 at 9 p.m. ET. The last season will be released in two six-episode segments, with the second premiering before the end of 2023.

The Walking Dead: World Beyond was a limited series of two seasons that have already aired on AMC and can be viewed on AMC+. Tales of the Walking Dead was released during the summer of 2022 and is an anthology series. The first season introduced several new characters to TWDU and received mixed reviews from fans of the flagship series. There has been talk of a second season, but nothing official has been announced. This series can also be viewed on AMC+.

The Walking Dead spinoff series

There will be at least three new spinoffs to carry the stories of several familiar characters, with a fourth recently announced. There have been discussions about more spinoffs in the future, but the creators have to give their full attention to the three already announced.

The Walking Dead: Dead City will be the first direct spinoff of the main series. Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) will return in this series and travel to the island of Manhattan. The teaser for this series shows that Maggie and Negan will encounter new friends and foes while being pitted against creepy-looking walkers, of which the horde is over one million strong. The duo will team up on a rescue mission to secure the release of Maggie’s son Hershel (Logan Kim). Dead City will premiere on AMC on June 18 at 10 p.m. ET.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon will feature the titular character on a new adventure overseas. Daryl (Norman Reedus) will find himself transported to France unwillingly and encounter the French variant walkers, and it seems, from the recent character description, some type of religious group. Daryl Dixon is expected to release in the fall of 2023.

The third and final spinoff will see the return of Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira). The fandom has longed to see the return of these characters and what has transpired with them since they left the series in seasons 9 and 10, respectively. The Rick & Michonne series is about ready to wrap filming and is expected to release in 2024.

More Tales of the Walking Dead is a recently announced series that will likely be an extension of the Tales of the Walking Dead anthology series.
