When it comes to The Walking Dead, a show that had so many cast members that it was sometimes hard to keep track of who was there and who wasn’t half the time, deaths can sometimes get lost in the sauce. There have been some heartbreaking deaths, others that were changed from the comics, and many more.
But what about the ones that we forgot about? The Walking Dead deaths that at the time felt like a big moment but, at the end of the day, we don’t really bring up nowadays because their characters, in the grand scheme of things, didn’t mean anything.
That’s where this list comes in today, where we talk about the four deaths in The Walking Dead that no one seems to talk about anymore.
T-Dog
I think one of the first I have to point out is T-Dog (IronE Singleton). T-Dog was a main character on The Walking Dead from the first season until the first episode of season 3. When the group was trying to retake the prison, T-Dog was bitten and then defended Carol as she ran and tried to survive, getting killed by walkers in the process.
At first, T-Dog dying felt like a big deal because it was yet again another character from the first season who was taken so fast, like many other very quick deaths in The Walking Dead. It also further showed that no one was really safe. But nowadays, it feels that many have forgotten about T-Dog and don’t really talk about him anymore.
Bob
Bob (Lawrence Gilliard Jr) was another character that had genuinely really good potential but was sacrificed in the long line of characters. Out of everyone, I think he’s the character I’m the most upset about on this list.
He survived Terminus but ended up getting bitten underwater and had his leg amputated afterward by cannibals, who happened to eat it. But even though he reunited with the group after the cannibals, he still ended up succumbing to the wound. I ended up really liking Bob by the end of his arc and was sad to see him go—honestly, season 5 saw a lot of characters fade off, some of whom I’d love to see in an alternate reality episode in their many spinoffs.
Axel
Axel (Lew Temple) was one of the few prisoners who held up shop in the prison after the world fell apart and the only one to make it because he wasn’t as horrible as the rest.
Was Axel the best person ever? Heck no, because he was actually a little creepy. But I do think he was making progress by the time his death came around in season 3, when he was shot point-blank in the head by the Governor in the episode "Home."
Out of everyone here, no one really talks about Axel, even though it was a shock when he was killed at the time.
The Anderson Family
Yes, I am putting them as a whole family unit because they were taken out in one fell swoop. During both the mid-season finale and the mid-season premiere of season 6, Ron (Austin Abrams) was taken out by Michonne when she impaled him with her sword to save Carl (who still ended up getting shot). Then both Sam (Major Dodson) and Jessie (Alexandra Breckenridge) were taken out by walkers in the next episode.
It was a heartbreaking moment to witness at the time, and Rick was genuinely shocked by it, considering he and Jessie had a thing going. Honestly, you’d think that would be a death that would change him forever. But nope, he ended up being just fine—and then he got with Michonne not that much longer later, and then it was history.
But now this makes me want to revisit The Walking Dead deaths that were so satisfying. Because these certainly do not make the cut. I think it’s time for a rewatch.
