Now that we’ve settled into 2026, anticipation is building for the return of our favorite Walking Dead spinoffs. Of course, there are only two spinoffs still ongoing. They are Daryl Dixon and Dead City. Sadly, Daryl Dixon will be wrapping up with its upcoming fourth and final season. However, Dead City's fate after season 3 is still uncertain. AMC has yet to speak publicly about a potential renewal.

However, it would make the most sense for the zombie series to continue for at least one more installment. Then, it would be tied with Daryl Dixon in total seasons. Additionally, this will allow Maggie and Negan’s story to reach a more definitive, well-earned conclusion. Given that it took two months after the second season's release for AMC to officially renew Dead City for a third season, we could be looking at a similar waiting period before any announcement is made about a potential season 4.

But keep in mind that this is just speculation based on past patterns. We'll just have to wait and see how AMC goes about doing things. What we do know is that a new cast member has just shared an exciting update on the highly anticipated third season!

Aimee Garcia shares behind-the-scenes update on Dead City season 3

Back in September 2025, news broke that Aimee Garcia (Lucifer, Dexter) had joined the series regular cast of Dead City season 3. It was revealed that she would be playing a character named Renata. When it comes to a character description, Renata is described as a charismatic and engaging leader whose optimism and friendly personality naturally draw people to her.

Following this big cast announcement, Garcia would go on to share a selfie of herself and Lauren Cohan on Instagram. Production on Dead City season 3 had already begun by this point. Naturally, she also couldn’t resist posting another selfie with Jeffrey Dean Morgan. That was in November 2025. The cameras had already been rolling for about two months at that time. However, Garcia wouldn't post about Dead City season 3 again until December 2025. That's when she officially wrapped her scenes on the third season.

For those who have been keeping up with Dead City season 3's filmmaking process, you'd know that the entire cast has finished filming already. But until now, the status of post-production had remained a mystery. With Garcia's latest behind-the-scenes update on Instagram, fans now have the clearest indication yet that post-production is actively underway.

On Feb. 25, Garcia shared a photo and a video on her Instagram story that are related to Dead City season 3. In both the photo and the video, she's shown in a recording studio doing ADR work for the third season. ADR is when actors re-record lines in a controlled studio environment to improve audio quality, fix dialogue issues, or add new lines that weren’t captured on set. Garcia doing ADR signals that post-production is progressing and that the series is moving one step closer to release.

So, when exactly is the third season premiering on AMC? That's the burning question everyone wants an answer to. Unfortunately, the network has not announced an official premiere date yet. While a premiere sometime this year would be great, there's a chance this might not happen. It's worth noting that the series was left off of AMC's most recent 2026 slate. However, the network also made sure to point out that the lineup wasn’t complete and that “much more” content is coming this year.

That said, perhaps Dead City season 3 might squeeze its way into AMC’s schedule later in the year. But for now, fans will have to remain patient, keeping a close eye on updates from the cast and the network!
