AMC will release the highly anticipated second season of The Walking Dead: Dead City on May 4. Fans are gearing up for an action-packed season that will see Maggie and Negan return to opposing sides in the battle for Manhattan. This season, Cohan, who has portrayed Maggie since season 2 of the flagship series, will step behind the camera to direct two episodes.
Cohan will join an impressive list of TWDU cast members who previously directed episodes of the main series and its spinoffs. Michael Cudlitz, who portrayed Abraham Ford, directed four episodes of TWD and two in World Beyond's first season.
Several Fear the Walking Dead actors directed episodes of their series. Lennie James, who portrayed Morgan Jones, directed three episodes, Alycia-Debnam Carey (Alicia Clark) directed one, and Colman Domnigo (Victor Strand) directed three. Aisha Tyler portrayed Mickey in season 7 of Fear TWD, she directed one episode of that series, and the main series, and two in World Beyond's second season.
Dead City's upcoming season will feature Cohan's directorial talents during episodes 4 and 6. This information was made public in June 2024 when her co-star Jeffrey Dean Morgan posted the news on social media. Cohan and Morgan star and serve as executive producers for the series. Daryl Dixon and The Ones Who Live also featured the series' leads in executive producer roles, which could be the key to their success.
AMC recently released a behind the scenes video for Dead City S2, which highlights Cohan's new role and features many cast members, old and new.
The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2
The first season of Dead City saw Maggie reluctantly enlist Negan's help to rescue her son Hershel (Logan Kim), who had been kidnapped by a former Savior named the Croat (Željko Ivanek). The duo teamed up with a group warring against the brutal gangs in Manhattan that are led by the Croat and the Dama (Lisa Emery).
New Babylon Federation is another community introduced in season 1. Marshal Perlie Armstrong (Giaus Charles) was on a man hunt for Negan Smith, a man who murdered a New Babylon Federation magistrate and four other men. It would later be revealed Negan committed these murders as an act of revenge.
The upcoming season will see Maggie as she tries to make a life raising two teens, her son, and Ginny (Mahina Napoleon), a orphan girl once cared for by Negan. The trailer shows that eventually Maggie and the kids will make their way back to Manhattan where Negan has stepped into his old shoes as leader, complete with a new Lucille, compliments of the Croat.

Several new cast members have been announced for season 2 and were featured in the video above. Kim Coates will portray Bruegel, a fierce gang leader. Dasha Polanco will portray Lucia Narvaez as either a major or a colonel, possibly for New Babylon, as the actor spoke ofher loyalty to that community at SDCC. Three others will also join the cast: Keir Gilchrist as Benjamin Pierce, a member of the Croat's Burazi; Jake Weary as Christos, a gang leader; and Pooya Mohseni as Roksana.
