With Halloween around the corner, you know what time it is — time for zombie horror movies. And now, Prime Video has a new film that is perfect for fans of The Walking Dead.
Apocalypse Z: New World is a new Spanish-language zombie film that is coming to Prime Video on Oct. 30, 2026, right before Halloween. The movie is a sequel to Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End.
The first film was the most-watched international original movie ever on Prime Video until Your Fault surpassed. So if you want to check out the first, you certainly should. However, it’s not required viewing for this anticipated addition.
What is Apocalypse Z: New World about?
While The Walking Dead features plenty of great locations and extremely interesting villains, this movie focuses on one villain that is more terrifying than anything else: the zombies and how freakishly fast they are.
The movie is based on Manel Loureiro's books and further expands its universe. The core premise takes place in the Canary Islands, an autonomous community of Spain. It becomes one of Europe's last refuges when the TSJ virus outbreak happens.
What is this virus? It basically turns humans into rabid creatures that resemble zombies. They're even scarier than you can imagine. Like, thinkWorld War Z, but scarier.
Living on an island comes with its issues, often including supply shortages. Because of this, a special mission is set: a young man named Roberto is sent out with the team to secure supplies. But while they’re there, things don’t pan out as they expected, and now it’s up to Roberto and his companions to survive not only the hordes of infected but also the betrayal that keeps mounting.
It’s an intense movie with plenty of crazy zombie sequences and terrifying moments, based on what you can see in the trailer. And utterly horrifying.

Why is this perfect for Walking Dead fans?
The Walking Dead franchise has been around for ages. It’s been a decade and a half since the show premiered, and while the spinoffs have been fun, zombie culture needs to change for the genre to continue thriving.
We’ve seen some successful changes too, like The Last of Us on HBO or the latest Resident Evil movie, which features truly terrifying zombies that genuinely make me want to scream. These zombies are the answer.
The trailer combines action and horror very well. While a show like The Walking Dead has great slow, dramatic moments, we really love seeing people kill walkers because it is an apocalypse show at the end of the day. That’s the kind of stuff we love to see.
The release of Apocalypse Z: New World is also fun because we get to dive deeper into a series again. We’re in need of a new popular zombie franchise. The Last of Us is great, but because both the game and the series go years between releases, the popularity comes and goes in waves. Resident Evil has always succeeded with its zombie games, but its films are mostly panned. Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil is the exception.
Being able to watch this new release after the first movie and explore another zombie world is always fun.
You can check out Apocalypse Z: New World on Prime Video when it releases on Oct. 30, 2026.
