While some people may believe that The Walking Dead universe has grown stagnant, there are still many who are looking forward to the release of the next series. These same fans are eager to see more stories within the universe. What will be the next series released, and when will it be available?
In May 2025, AMC released season 2 of the Maggie and Negan-led series The Walking Dead: Dead City. The eight part season was filled with betrayal, emotional decisions, and lots of death. There is no official announcement of a third season renewal, but showrunner Eli Jorne has stated "The story is not over yet," and the season ended with a montage that set up events for the future.
The only other series within TWDU that is currently airing new seasons is the Norman Reedus-led series The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. Reedus was joined by Melissa McBride, who portrays Carol Peletier, in the second season, and she will also star in the third season, which is set to premiere on AMC and AMC+ on September 7, 2025.
The first two seasons were set in France with the upcoming season beginning in England before the duo find themselves in Spain. The ultimate goal of the pair is to return home to the Commonwealth and other communities where they can reunite with their family and friends.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 3 cast
Reedus and McBride are likely the only two cast members to return from seasons 1 and 2. Many of the newly introduced Daryl Dixon characters were either killed off or departed on their own journeys by the end of the second season.
Emmy Award-winning actor Stephen Merchant will be featured in the upcoming season. According to reports, he will appear in the first episode and portray a "very interesting character." Fans can catch glimpses of him in several of the teasers.
Additionally, Eduardo Noriega, Óscar Jaenada and Alexandra Masangkay join this season as regular cast members. They will be joined by Candela Saitta, Hugo Arbués, Greta Fernández, Gonzalo Bouza, Hada Nieto, Yassmine Othman, and Cuco Usín.
Reedus and McBride will also return as executive producers for the series with Scott M. Gimple, Showrunner David Zabel, Greg Nicotero, Brian Bockrath, Angela Kang, Jason Richman, Dan Percival and Steve Squillante along with Silvia Aráez and Jesús de la Vega from Ánima Stillking.
